Hi guys
Now that the Norton is running I want to start thinking about Cosmetics. I want to pull the original Stainless fenders off & save them & put on painted fenders. What other bikes can I get fenders off that will fit without a lot of rigging. Fitment is a factor so off another Norton might be the way to go

These were undrilled Triumph Bonneville stainless fenders that I adapted to fit. I like the brushed finish more than Norton's polished stainless which most people mistake for chrome plated.

The rear fender was cut and rotated forward and the front was reversed (I like the lip up front) and rotated back. You may or may not want to go to the trouble or spend $ on new, undrilled fenders, but Triumph is an alternative. Also, I utilized a chromed Triumph front fender brace.

I run one off of a late 80's Suzuki Intruder, looks very similar to a Production Racer front fender, but made of steel instead of FG. It only needs one hole drilled (and one filled) on each side. They used this style for a lot of years so there are plenty on the Bay. I have a fastback tail with the correct rear fender, so it is already shorter and painted.

They are stainless, what is there to save, they do not rust and can only be damaged if you have an accident.

And still available now new and drilled

I believe Wolfman just wants painted mudguards and doesn't want to modify the originals.
You could buy some rusted earlier chromed Commando fenders (cheap) and paint those.
The holes for the rear won't fit the later square Lucas tail light and the front fender will be narrower and requires the correct stays.

I think the early chrome plated steel guards are a different width to the later stainless steel ones. Certainly the front is. If you really don't want to mess the old ones i would get cheap stainless mudguards that could then be painted an stones coming off tyre would not cause inter surface to start rusting. Beware though a friend got some cheap mudguards an the holes in the rear were 1/4" different in height form left to right. They ended up on his AJS so it was not a problem but it would have been on a Commando. Mine came from RGM an fit perfectly and are well made.

I've had a black fiberglass front fender for 40 years. I painted the rear fender black to match it. Of course it's not stock, but my bike isn't stock in many ways as you can see. On any motorcycle I always prefer the the look of the fenders to be painted the same as the tank and side covers. I think CNW paints the fenders on some of their beautiful bikes, so obviously they like the painted fender look too.

Here's a picture with black fenders when the bike was closer to stock many years ago.

Here's a picture of it now. (the rear fender needs repainting...)

Thanks Guys Komando is right. I want to save the originals for if I ever want to go back stock. I was hoping to find a front fender with all brackets & braces that will pretty easily fit with minimal modification. Like some one else said I like the looks of the beaded edge British fenders. For the rear I may just go with one of those re-pops. I guess that SS will hold paint if scuffed. I want to use the tail light pictured. It is LED. I got it from "New Bonniville" They also offer a cast aluminum bracket like the original. Shoulda bought the package of both.
