OK, so this is clearly age related. I am 55, and graduated HS is 1975 in LA. I saw a funny t-shirt that say it all - "I might be old, but I got to see all the good bands."

This station is great for me, no commercials, like listening to KLOS or the mighty MET is 1970's. Google it, this is a real odd ball - it is touted as this guys personal MP3 while he is driving around. Like they say on their station ID - One million songs commercial free. Click on listen online. This is great music for working on the scooter...Lot's of Linda Rondstadt - bonus ...only drawback is no punk, not much Dead, but I keep asking...

Anyone else got any good streaming radio station recommends? Hope this is not violating some Access Norton rule. I have NO financial or personal relationship here, just sharing my preference.

I like any station that has no adverts and a madcap DJ who thinks he/she is the bees knees and rabble on and on just because they like the sound of their own voice :!:

Radio sucks, the same 10 songs over and over to death. When i'm in the truck I usually use the scan button till I find something tolerable. If not then it's the Ipod with either my collection on shuffle or a variety of podcasts. I do subscribe to the Bob and Tom podcast, it's the only morning show I enjoy. Like all others there are the intolerable parts, but for me there are few of them.

I started using the Stitcher app for podcasts and iHeartRadio for music on my android phone, works fairly well most of the time. I will use it when I run out of podcasts and don't feel like listening to whats on the Ipod.

I graduated in 95, I have a little different taste in music. On the plus side, I do have another 20 years of music to enjoy, as it seems true that music engraving slows when you graduate.

I agree with the typical commercial radio lack of variety. That Is why I like this station, they play stuff I have not heard in 30 years. I use Pandora when I can't get this station. I heard Spotify is good, haven't tried it.

Grateful Dead station and jam on . Sirrius radio I am too from the graduation period 1975 .

My new Nissan Altima came set up for Sirius Radio...without my knowledge. Shortly after buying it I recieved an offer from Sirius for a free 3 month trial. I figured "what the heck" and tuned in. Completely commercial free...rock and jazz 24/7. Bought a subscription and never looked back...absolutely love it.

I see your dumdog plates what kind of dog or dogs do you have ?

I get the dogs from the pound, so kind of "potluck." I live in Phoenix, the pound is chock full of pit bulls and chihuahuas. I don't really care for either, but pit bulls are a bit maligned, if the owners are good, the dogs are good. So, when I got the recent dog (our heeler and aust. shepard had both passed on) the pickings were slim outside of the two breeds mentioned before. I wanted a German Shepard, we had one when I was a kid, although they are prone to hip problems, and they are also prone to being a bit neurotic because they are so smart. So I ended up with a juvenile female Catahoula Leopard Dog - we always get females. Good choice for here she is short haired, sheds very little, came to us fully housebroken and knows basic commands - although she has some issues with separation anxiety (probably from being in the pound.) She is a very high energy dog, and needs to go to the the dog park at least 5 times a week. Or we have a doggy daycare very close to my house, she loves that place. We could not decide on a name for awhile, but I came up with Addie for Attention Deficit Dog (ADDie), my wife liked it.

One more thought, I also like jazz, any streaming jazz stations that are good?

me too.....

SwingFM is excellent and no commercials , my favorite http://www.swingfm.asso.fr/html/index.php?lng=en

http://www.radioswissjazz.ch/en also good most of the time

http://www.nrk.no/nrkjazz/ has a 192K feed that sounds great

http://www.wbgo.org/ very good

all of these are available at http://tunein.com/ and they (tunein) have smart phone apps too

there are a lot of good US jazz station that unfortunately stream in low quality i.e. less than 128K

for $36/year you can get Pandora One which sounds better than the free stream and has no commercials, have been using it while working in my garage and also while driving (via smart phone), enjoy it a lot

Thank you a bunch Bluto! I will add these to my list. I listened briefly to them (could not get the one from France open, will get that later.) These sound really promising. I used to listen to jazz on the local NPR station, called, ironically enough, KJZZ (K-jazz.) Over the years this has morphed into NPR programming until 8pm, and starts again at like 4 or 5 am. And the music on the station is pretty much the same thing all the time (take 5, ect.) Not that they are not great tunes, but variety is the spice of life, no?

Oh yes, KLOS and KMET in the '70's in So Cal. Did it get any better? Jim Ladd in his prime, Jeff Gonser. B Mitchell Reed and a whole bunch of other DJ's that escape my memory at the moment, plus some awesome rock and roll. Not so much anymore though.

When I was in college, I listened to WQBK out of Albany - you never heard the same song twice in one week. This was where I first heard The Talking Heads, Blondie, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones, Patti Smith and others all sprinkled in with King Crimson, Velvet Underground, Captain Beefheart, and Alice Cooper.

Now I listen to Sirius/XM Deep Tracks - same stuff I listened to then. Tom Petty and Bob Dylan have regular shows on that channel, too

There's a station down south of Miami called WDNA. They play serious jazz, mostly with a latin flair, and regularly showcase University of Miami's jazz band.

There's also WVUM - the UM station, which is a typical college station

Here in the Ft Lauderdale area, there's WKPX, 88.5 (they used to say, 'number 1 on your FM dial, reading left to right'). It's actually a high school station during the day, and the Nova-Southeastern University station at night. This is where I first heard Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Mojo Nixon, Fish Karma, Dream Syndicate, Front 242, KMFDM, EMF. Been listening to them since around 1982. In their heyday, before NSU started taking over 7PM-7AM, they were better than many college stations. Now, with school budget cutbacks, they're tape about 40% of the time, but still have some really good moments.

So I have around 250 gig of FLAC files if anyone would be interested in exchanging some tunes. Mostly rock + country from pre 90. Jim

Rhapsody.com. Five bucks a month. Stream complete albums. There are a few bands who are not represented from the 70s period. Mostly notably Led Zeppelin. So, I have found Lez Zeppelin as an alternate when I really need to hear Dazed and Confused.

Some of the more obscure stuff has to be found somewhere else:
