What do you guys use to spray on the intake & carb interfaces to check for an air leak? Something that doesn't make a mess, hopefully.

Aerosol carb cleaner. If this stuff gets near the leak, you will definitely hear the difference in idle. It evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. As mentioned, other things will also work but this is my go to. I now use the non-chlorinated type for safety reasons.

Not lit. Of course not. An increase of revs is a vacuum leak. Only have to look at a couple places. If you have ever used a propane torch, and who hasn't, then you know that the gas continues to come out after you close the valve. Open the valve, close the valve, then get it close to the intake flanges while it continues to vent for those few seconds. Repeat as necessary.
