famous family feud

Nothing like a family feud to heat related people up. Winter oil fires hardly flair up anymore w/o newbies to feed it. I say that genetically Harley Davisions are closest kissing cousins for friction to develop between their owners. I think there are more common similarities than differences - than anything else going. At rally's HDs seem like bulls in a china store but then again big ole clunky sea clams are most closely related to light flexable octopuses. Wesley would bring up this quandary occasionally at our rest stops. Basically decided Brit Iron more bicycle philosophy light flimsy with HD's more tractor robust but other wise the ones most glad to have us join them. Can't even defend that HD brought us the Hell's Angles as 1st bad biker films featured BI not Hogs.

So invite listing ya likes dislikes, similarities/dis similars from construction to styling to rider behavior with reasoning - counter points please. Don't forget to mention Norton engineers and racers attitude in this conflicted family activities.

Personally hobot likes the foot forward tall handle and sissy bars and sound if muffled down tolerable. Do envy the female participating more on American Iron, if that logic still applies to ya.

I was a serious Norton rider in the 70s. Now I'm a hobbyist and would be loathe to take one of these clanky crocks cross-country as some folk do. Keeping one running is an exercise in constant attention. I appreciate having something to ride I can jump on and go wherever, although those require maintenance also as the miles pile up. I know there are are those around here who think motorcycles before and after the Commando are a waste of raw materials. I love looking at them in the garage as much as riding them. Old memories keep flooding back in.

Just ride across America on a old brit bike and then do it on a HD, you'll appreciate
the size and weight of the Harley.
It's all about choosing the right tool for the job.

Sure, Mark, but if you drop an H-D, you need to call a tow truck to pick it up. Its model number(1200) refers to its weight!

Snide comments aside, I appreciate Harleys at a distance. I have worked on my friend's '07 Wide Glide and put tires on 3 other Harleys, but I've never enjoyed riding one. My current main ride ('07 ZX-14, 76,xxx miles) weighs in around 550-560 and whatever I get to replace it will be a least 50 lbs lighter, so Harley's are out.

In truth, anyone who owns old Britbikes should not be making fun of anything else that leaks oil. Even us hobbyists can screw one together tighter than the factory ever did.

Danno - rode the CBR1000rr today . . . about the same weight as my Commando.

Hobot - If a Buell XB9 came up at the right price, I'm in. Spent a day on one, loved it. And the point about the weight of an HD on a long road trip, good one.

And, it must be said that Commando seats suck, at least all of the ones I've had to suffer with.
