My peashooters are shot. Dented, not original, not what I wanted soundwise.
Been searching for new mufflers and I found some that are REALLY expensive, but not what I wanted in any case.
I owned a 1970 Commando back in the day, and was quite fond of my Dunstall pipes.
So was mostly looking in that direction. Of course, the originals are no longer available, unless you can find them used - in whatever condition.
After some recommendations from FB Norton owners (who would have guessed?), I sprung for an inexpensive silencer upgrade.
Got mine from eBay seller TheBonnevilleShop. $150 including shipping. I think they are made by Emgo. No fiberglass, just metal baffles.
Sound great - not too loud, deeper than my old shooters.
Not for purists... no doubt. But I am not in that camp.
Here is a quick pic...

Nice. I have the same issue with my peashooters, and want something different too. The Viking black cans are nice, but soooo pricey.

Tomas,

Those look nice, and look very similar to the Dunstalls'.
I had an original set of Dunstall Decibel Silencers years ago on my `71 Commando and they were LOUD.
They were also junky thin steel and crummy chrome plating. I sold them to some collector who had to have a set of originals.
I bet your Emgo repos are higher quality.

Now you need to toss out those 40 year old Girling shocks and get a new set of Hagons.

Mark

Loud sometimes has to do with cam timing, particularly the exhaust opening point if it is early.

Good looking long dongs to me that look like the right stuff made for impressive Commandos.

Very nice, Tom! Had a set on a T140 years ago. i liked em. And.....looks like you rubbed some wax on that bike since last saw? There's no limit is there !? South 14 one of these days with 1U3D.

When this happens to me it is usually with regards to the invoice....!

Hey Mark - I remember my Dunstalls being louder than these. If poor quality it has been long forgotten. I think they lowered their standards at some point. Looking at that shock upgrade.
You got that machine running yet?
Chris - you, me, & hopefully Commando John tomorrow to Dawn's! I will contact my 850 neighbor to see if he can join us too.
Fast Eddie - that is my usual experience too! This was so unusual I just had to post about them.

Im Sure you could get the baffles out . :P  .  . Liable to work well . Very Good . Never mind the smart assed remaks . :)

I was just admiring your seat, do you know the brand or was it already on the bike from the PO like that?

I had a set of Hooker pipes and silencers, came up the right side, they were loud too, so it screwed up the jetting, plus they scraped on the ground, so I took them off.
