Rob,Mike - there isn't a lot to get from that photo.
I can see the pipes tuck together - but is it a 2 into 1? Probably, but the photo doesn't show clearly
What about a couple of extra photos?
How old is it?
I am the original owner of this bike. They were installed around the spring of '74 and are Dick's Cycle West which is no longer in business. also, there is a Super Trap baffle system installed at the very end of the exhaust..Rob,
I have no idea where they came from. They are quite loud. Here are some more pictures View attachment 102343
Ying, I have what looks to be the same system on my '73 850. As noted by "Cafe '74" yours appears to have Supertrapp plates at the exit, whereas mine is essentially straight thru with a reverse cone hidden just inside the angled-cut outlet. My bike is stock with original (not Premier) Mk1 concentrics, ham can filter and points. I had a lot of trouble getting it to run acceptably at, and off, idle. I ended up with settings that are not far off standard except for a richer throttle slide, and it needs the choke to be partially closed for quite some time after I start riding. I don't know if the carburation issues are attributable mainly to the exhaust or something else.Does anyone recognize this exhaust system and how will it affect the standard Amal Premiers settings?Stock engine.Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,Mike
Were the pipes made for your bike by Dick's Cycle West as the way they fit looks like they been hand made, they look great and of course with any sports systems need to have the carbs jetted right for getting those exhaust gas burned right and out of the exhaust as quick as possible and baffled to have a bit of back pressure as well.I am the original owner of this bike. There is no scrape marks on the pipe so say the kicker swing doesn't interfere with the exhaust as it looks like the pipes have been made to tuck right into the bottom frame rail.
JdubCool bike! Pipes are threaded over to the Timing side and sitting above the lower frame then? And the SuperTrapp adjustable exhaust plates as well? How do you use the kickstart? Judicious downstroke? Is the rear of the Primary painted black and if so, for a reason?
