Tri Spark just died... but still have original MK111 points. Bought new condensers. What is the easiest way to go backwards in time... Tips ? Schematics ?

The wiring diagram for points ignition is in the manual also instructions on how to set the points and ignition timing so it shouldn't be difficult if you have all the necessary parts.

That’s a bummer!

Is it the old type, or the new version?

Any ideas why?

Bite the bullet and buy another Electronic Ignition. Having just converted my 69 ford from points to a cheap, simple, pertronix Electronic ignition, I realize that it ran like shit for years because of the points ignition, NOT the carb which I have been blaming for years.

I run a boyer microdigital now on the commando and had run the original boyer black box for years without needing to adjust it or wonder... I wouldn't switch back...

Yes I just got printed the PDF revised MK 111 manual and it's all there from 42 years back in time.

:)

The manual should answer most questions but if you hit a problem you know where to ask.

Don't forget the white/purple (WP) ballast bypass wire between the starter 'solenoid' and coils which should be reconnected (for starter motor, ballast and 6V coils).

I bought the bike in Ottawa , drove her back to Toronto. No probs. Unscrewed the cover as I was curious to see a Tri Spark for the first time. This is a well polished yet unventilated cover. That's when the smell of hot electronics wafted towards my nose. It's a distinctive smell for sure. Drove it for a month more. Started up the bike this spring , it ran for a couple of runs then died thankfully out front one morning last week. I believe it might be the earlier style of unit. Full continuity to the supply WP wire when tested with a test light turning on the ignition key.

I have an older Boyer in a sealed bag in my stash of stuff.

Yes , thanks.

A new Boyer Mk4, Pazon or Wassell electronic set will get you going with little bother or expense.

I know you didn’t ask that.
