What is the purpose for the hose connection between separated manifold induction? Do other mulit carb engines use such connections? Does the hose have to be small or does size matter? What would be expected if hose clogged or clamped shut? I know its called a balance equalizer hose - but does it really do so to matter?

I suspect the balance pipe moderates high and low vacum peaks thereby promoting smoother running, particularly on larger inlet tracts at low RPM.
Yes a lot of other engines use this.
If it's blocked the engine runs as two singles, which is not a problem if tuned perfectly.

No you don't really need a balance tube and there are plenty of Dominators, Triumphs and BSA twins without them. But to make a carb kit user friendly and easier to tune - a balance tube helps.

thanx for finding that needing I'd forgotten comnox reviewing this. What's on my mine is if a little balance tube between 2 carbs is desirable why not go all the way with a two barrel carb sharing a single manifold.

a single manifold being fed by two carbs will generally not flow as much air (not fuel) as individual manifolds

this is important only if one is reaching for more horsepower in the upper rpm range

1u/3d you are helping convivince me dual carbs+single manifold might be worth trying yet not be any better than 1 big carb into Y manifold. So farl my dual carb cycles have been tuneable as I can stand for starting to throttle snap idle transition [love to kick rear out a bit on loose stuff going slow] so I know about as much as I want to at this point.

How many branched organ pipes have you seen ? How the standing wave is established in the inlet and exhaust tracts is important. It is the reason that dramatic valve timings can be used to produce more power.

I think it's all about the idle. It makes it easier to tune with the tube but I think you might get better results if you get it as close as possible without the tube and the orifices capped and then re employ the tube for best results.

When I had my JS PWK's, get things balanced was seemingly impossible. I drilled the available boss, pressed in an 1/8" brass tube and connect them to attain a respectable idle.

xbackslider detailed it best in the other carb balance tube thread. The balance tube allows lower slide cut outs so can pull fuel a bit better the instant slides start to lift. Still don't know if a two barrel into 2 manifold Norton would work well or not.

Al I've got most the scope of full size vintage pipe organs, pencils size to wooden folded pipes that ran length of concert hall and back ya can't here only feel. Lots of special effects behind those knobs gongs to percussion strings and bells but don't recall branched whistles.
