I have a 1971 Roadster customer Commando that is very close to being a roller. The customer supplied me with wheel assemblies that got the full cNw treatment (rims, spokes, sealed bearings, polishing), the left side bearing retainer is a locking ring, not a circlip.

Here is the question: The parts book(s) call for a spacer (NM16783) and a dust cover (NM18551, no need for the felt ring (?). Is the dust cover (06-3918) a compatible replacement for the NM parts?

Best.

If you mean can you use the disc brake hub outer cap over that meant for the drum hub, not really.
The inner side does not suit the drum brake and the diameter is smaller overall.

You might be able to machine the inner boss on the disc hub cap but the smaller diameter might rub on the drum brake bearing boss (The alloy of the hub itself)

The main problem is the disc hub spacer sticks out beyond the bearing, not so on the drum brake bearing so the inner boss diameter on the later cap would be up against the retainer ring for starters.

It sounds like you are referring the right side spacer for the disk, I am dealing with the left side of the drum hub. I do appreciate your response.

Best.

These are the two caps you quote by part number.

Searching by part number on Andover Norton usually answers these questions, or adds to the confusion. They have x ref the NM parts to the 06.XXXX

NM16783 gets you to

06.7674
SPACER

NM18551 gets you to

NM18551
DUST COVER/SPACER - FT HUB BEARING (DRUM)

Thanks Kommando. I am now aware that using the NM18551 dust cover requires the NM16783 (06-7674) spacer for the left side of the drum. That the hub has sealed bearings allows me to skip the felt seal.

Once the wheel assembly has been snugged up I will also be checking to see that rim/tire are centered between the stanchions.

Best.
