I was reading on one of the Thruxton sites last nite that rumor is Triumph is redesigning it for 2015. They were all discussing their "dream" Thruxton. One guy wanted a 6 gallon gas tank and another a huge motor! But the general concensus was that they wanted 15 more HP, better or dual front rotors, better suspension and less weight!. Of course they probably wanted to pay less then $12000 for this wonderbike but otherwise they were describing the 961 to a tee!

I have the 08 Thruxton and it doesn't come close to the 961. Thruxtons are nice bikes in their own right but a long ways from the current Norton. I also have the TPUSA 1087 Thruxton that is putting out 108 at the rear wheel. If Triumph would build a factory bike like the TPUSA 1087 and changed the frame and suspension then you would have something that could compete with the Norton. Al little competition is always good! I will keep my eye on the new 2015 models.

Have you ever had a new Commando on a track versus a Thruxton?

I didn't think so.

Academics are wonderful, but can be very useless at times...

Since I own both the Thruxton 900 and the Norton 961, I can tell you there is no need to take them to the track to compare. The Norton 961 is a superior bike in every way.

^ A stock Thruxton, yes, but on a diet, with wider lighter wheels, superior exhaust, suspension swap, and actually let it breathe . . . you might be surprised.

I certainly can't argue with that; the first ACTUAL, REAL WORLD, FIRST-HAND comparison...

Still, I'd be interested in seeing lap times by several riders on several MOSTLY STOCK bikes.

Ha - nice - put the self proclaimed "expurt" in his place!

I never proclaimed myself an expert, and my place is nowhere near the comparison I'd like to see: I own neither bike.

(nor did I make a certain claim beyond academics being wonderful)

Nice Thruxton. Good job on the mods. Can it be fitted with Ohlin fork? Do they make a fit or do you think it would be overkill anyway?

Thx- everything is bolted on and readily available- the front suspension could DEFINITELY use an upgrade- the weakest component of the bike right now. There are folks who have done a CBR swap I believe . . . might be next :)

BUT, buy a new Thruxton at $12K otd and add to it what I did and you are at $18k +/- . . . I'd buy the 961 hands down. BUT, buy a used CARBED Thruxton as I did and patiently pick up the bits used from others and you can have a nice Thrux for a third of the price of the 961 . . . no brainer.

I have a 1979 Bonnie T140D. I'm waiting for my 961 to arrive in Feb. OR, since I'm only 5 miles away, but the one listed on ebay on the other thread.
