Its official. I'm tired of waiting for the red biposto I put a deposit on and no one having a clue to its arrival, so I purchased the black single seater Sport that was available. Picking it up Saturday. I think Norton is having a problem filling all the pre orders and I don't want to blow a whole season. I don't think the Mrs. really wanted to get on the back anyway. I have an old Bonnie for that. Oh....the excitement.

Cool.
IMHO you've got a better bike with the single seat.
Do please keep us posted as to how you get on.

over here in the USA, we know how you feel. only we have no options as of now. been waiting for 4 years now. latest rumor is they are building 15 bikes a week now... but who the hell really knows. i have moved up on the waiting list with people changing their minds, opting for other norton models and a few deaths.... i wonder if they died from anxiety waiting for their bike... are you listening Mr. garner ???? Mr. van inept ???

Congrats Britfan60, you'll love it.

Black w/gold stripe - classic Command. The elegant tuxedo of motorcycledom.

Enjoy it, and keep us up to date.

Just read on the Norton website, a whole shipment (I think 10 bikes) is ready to ship to California and production is cranking. Should I have waited for what I wanted? hmmmmmm

You do realize he is from Long Island right??? Last I checked it was in the USA!

his location is not listed on his avatar. nit picker. esp when this site covers norton world wide... 10 bikes is a drop in the bucket.

Husky, from your posts it does sound like you are (understandably) a little bit disillusioned with the Norton experience so far (putting it politely)!

May I ask, why do you persist with the Norton idea... why not simply spend your hard earned cash with someone else?

I was about to ask the same, the new Yamaha twin is an excellent bike about half the price, more power and available from stock. Bland looks though!

one cannot vent ?? been waiting since the sign up sheet and deposits were taken, 4 years now. i am short in stature, so few bikes let me sit flat footed. so that has a lot to do with my choice . i have no shortage o f bikes to ride; street, track or dirt. 14 bikes in the garage. but this was the one , along with my F-1 that would b the crown jewel.

Of course one can and should,it used to bring change once upon a time unless you were in a regime, that might have got you a jolly good flogging and still no Norton.
It wasn't that long ago that when you wanted a top of the range Ducati you payed up front and waited anywhere up to a year, only so many were built, winners were grinners.

Where are you on the waiting list?? I only see 2 SE models on the shipment! :(

And I don't blame you for venting, I waited 2 1/2 years!

In that case I hope that it arrives soon, I was pissed off after waiting just over a year for my 961 Sport and I'm in the UK! I ordered mine in November 2009 and was told delivery in 6 or 7 months it took around 15 months If they had told me it would be 15 months in the first place it would not have been a problem I would still have ordered it but I would rather have known. The thing I found frustrating was that I was not updated on a regular basis and I had to keep chasing them for a delivery date. I was hoping that they had got that sorted by now!!
However I'm sure when you finally get it you will love it, however I'm only around 5'9" also and I can't put my feet down flat.

Paperwork is complete and today is the day. I'm psyched. I've seen mention of other bikes that will out perform the Norton at half the price. Overall performance is not my priority. Build quality and aesthetics are important to me. The Norton just seems to have the best quality components like braided lines, lots of billet, NO PLASTIC, style. I'm 54 and not a racer. I tested out the new Duc Monster 1200S, and all though a real nice bike, just too complicated with water cooling hoses all over the place, plastic components. Just to complicated for me. I like simplicity. Easy to clean and easy on the eyes. I just enjoy straightening out the twisties on a country road. The only bike I've ever owned (and still do) is a '79 Bonnie T140D.
This Norton will be a real step up and suitable to my tastes. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the diverse feedback but to each their own.
P.S. Jaymac: I'm also 5'9 and have no problem flatfooting the ground. Maybe your more torso less leg and I'm more leg less torso. :|

Just did 37 mi. Went straight to the beach and the Blue Angels (USAF) flew right over me. Now THAT was cool. Pulled over and watched a little air show.
The optional pipes sound phenomenal. Took it up to the 5k rpm. and was doing 80-85 mph.

Minor gripes (I have no dislikes)
The left foot peg coming up when lifting foot from dead start. Getting used to that already.
New riding position a little tough on the old knees and elbows. Might put slight risers. Other than that, suck it up.
Turning radius for slow U turn. Not what I'm used to.
Right hand still getting numb. It always did with the Bonnie, so, eh......shake it out, boy.

Loves: Sound, (positively recommend the X pipes...real meaty) handling, tractor like torque, looks, the Brembos and Ohlins ar MAGNIFICENT. Like riding in a Benz. Bump absorption without being too soft and not at all harsh.
Fit and finish are bar none, some of the best I've ever seen. Right down to every little fitting.
A couple of ultra tatooed bikers in pick up trucks drooled over it at the red lights. There's an ego booster.

So there will be a little getting used to, but man, it the perfect balance between old and new school. Feel and sounds like an old Brit. with much better ride and performance.

Too bad I have a party to go to or I'd still be out there.

Cheerio.

2 SE’s. doesn’t surprise me. Matt “bullshiter” capri at south bay norton showed me the list of customers. with a few people changing their minds , and other passing away - brought on by the long wait no doubt !! i have moved up the list to # 37. at this rate, hhmm, maybe Jan of 2023 ?? lol

had a huge , nasty face to face with van inept at long beach 3 years ago. did in front of a rather large crowd. have to say it felt pretty good, asked him about this business model where one puts down non-refundable deposit on a bike they can’t deliver. the crowd could only smile as i grilled his ass. i then asked why no newsletter to keep us informed, so in the last 2 years he has sent 2 e-mail out about the bikes. but he is real busy signing up dealers !!!

Husky.

I just heard from my dealer here on the East coast that around 50 bikes are slated to fill those orders that have been taken since 2008 on the west. That's what encouraged me to take the sport that he had. Hang in there. With the financial backing and new hirees at Norton, I don't think it will be more than a few months. You'll probably make at least part of this season. And since you are in Cali., your season is a lot longer than mine.
