Do all Dominators have the Mark II engine?

And what is the Mark II engine really?

I know cases and castings but what was meant to make it more 'reliable' or smoother.

No more Norton coming to Australia is the word for 2018.
 
I heard that no more Nortons a few months back , do you know if Frasers will still be involved with any after sales maintenance?
 
They say yes but being a bit coy about it all...like waiting for it to all fade away.

I'm trying to get a good friend who is a dealer/mechanic to pick up one of the leftover 961s.

Let's face it reasonably simple if parts are still supplied.

Will let you know after I visit the main workshop in Sydney.
 
I was not aware the Mk11 engine was any different other then having the oil separator already installed, and that is external. It would be cost prohibitive to change the cases or castings now!
 
Different finish on the engine. Internally, I couldn't say, but aren't the MKIIs still getting oil in the airbox?
 
Saw the post about no Norton's to Australia........ is this confirmed or just rumor?
 
Thought that the gearbox is new in the MKII engines and more reliable...
 
I think the topic of 'what difference is there with a mk11 engine (and gearbox)' is a good question. Norton 'launched' the mk11 with much fanfair, and lots of bold claims about how much better they were, but it is tricky pinning down exactly what mk11 means.

I asked Norton (inc our friends on here) several times, what the actual differences were and what problems had been solved by said changes. I never received any informative answers (at the time I was looking to buy one, but lack of info failed to give me the confidence to go through with it).

If some knows (Richard?) it would be great to be enlightened.
 
There has been engine updates since day one. Every engine we get into we see differences. (Bearings, balance shafts, clutch hubs, etc... ) 2014 was a year for new clutch hub and front fender and stopping of gold line brakes. Everything is interchangeable tho. New stuff has tighter tolerances. 2016 From what I know, the ECU was the largest change in mkII and to "mark" this they also changed seat style. The new ECU does seem to make a better running bike. But not without sensor, coil issues. MY OPINION ONLY>>> Any and all norton 961's NEED a total sensor and ignition upgrade and someone to check every bolt is tight. Ran in properly from new. After this, you will be rewarded with a really fantastic motorcycle.
