Seems I found a guy ready to clean/drill/paint a Commando disc the way OldBritts use to have it done:
Scott Woodruff, 300 Cross Gate Dr., Marietta, Ga. 30068. racersuprv@bellsouth.net

He just quoted me $100.00 + $11.00 shipping for deglaze, big center holes and some small drilling on the brake area (A pattern, he is offering 5/6 different patterns) and painting.(3/4 days turn around!)
I am sending him my disc as I am writing this and I will keep you posted!

Philippe

PS: seems like no-one knows what "Blanchard" means!!!

cr*p.. that's down the street from me..actually according to MapQuest 40 minutes.
Need mine done as well.
Have a phone number? or his website? I'd like to see his patterns.

He must work out of his house... just did a Google Earth to his address.

edit... just did a White Page lookup:
Says he's between 60 and 64 years of age.
Scott C Woodruff
300 Cross Gate Dr
Marietta, GA 30068-3923

Thanks

I chose the A one

Some of those are just fantastic. I think my bike really needs one of those.. It's only a couple of weeks turnaround, round trip?

Thanks Pillipe, just shot him an email to see if I can knock on his door to discuss my disc and hand it over to him

Yeah, so 3-4 to ship to him, 3-4 for work, 3-4 to ship back. ;)

I may have to do this...

You really want overlapping holes in the pattern otherwise the disc will wear unevenly. (This happens on some BMW Airheads). Pattern B looks suspect in this manner.

I did a couple like pattern D only with fewer lines of holes. Everybody kept warning me about Norton discs cracking so I tried to go minimalist. The discs worked out fine and never had an issue cracking. I also chamfered the holes slightly on both sides.

Thinking about this a bit more, it got me wondering.. are those examples of his really Commando disks? I'm struggling with figuring out just how he could have made the centers look like that...? Also, the opening for B looks WAY too big for a Norton hub!

I'm not sure if OldBritts is still doing this, but supposedly they offer service for $70.

The OldBritts rotors are a bit more tame than the rotors in the example above, I'm just wondering if this guy can really get the centers like that. That looks like a TON of work!

of course the pics of Scotts discs aren't Commandos, they're only pics of the drilling patterns he offers.
Scott will do (at extra cost) whatever inner disc drilling you'd like. He will do an "Old Britts" style as per the first poster.
For me he will be doing "Kidney" shaped holes on the inner disc.
This is what I did back in 1985 on my third Norton (someone in France bought it from me in 2002):

The discs in the photo don't appear to be Blanchard ground. Is he grinding them or doing them on a lathe? I don't know for a fact that grinding is preferred, but all surfaces parallel certainly is.

I just asked Scott about this. Here is his reply:

"Jeff, I do chamfer the holes but I don't machine the disc. I block sand them smooth & flat while they are spinning on a metal lathe. If it's warped or bent you're better off replacing it."

He just sticks them in a lathe and sands them? For a few dollars more you can get them ground and drilled...

I wish oldbritts was still doing this (doesn't look like they are)..

I think I'll just deal with my stock disc until I can afford to just say "to hell with it" and buy a disc upgrade package from Clubman w/ Grimeca caliper, 12" floating drilled disc, and retapped 13mm MC. $700 for that, a considerable performance upgrade, or $175-ish for purely-cosmetic.. Not a tough choice for me, although I was hoping to just get the stock rotor drilled cheaper. Fwiw, it's a fair price IMO, I just think I'd be better off upgrading the whole damn thing instead.

Why not got with Gary at DBR? Cheaper than Old Britts with the same service.
