Hi,

I'm getting into the gearbox for the first time to investigate a kickstart problem.
A mate mentioned today that the inner cover can be removed without removing the lockring & clutch release body.
I've checked out the parts diagrams but am still unclear if this is the case.

Can anyone shed some light on this one for me?

The clutch release parts will come off with the iner cover, he is correct. Pushrod will remain in the mainshaft.

It may be possible, but I'm not sure it's an entirely practical way of doing things, as the mainshaft retaining nut (040023) is behind the release mechanism (or it should be?), therefore the mainshaft also has to be withdrawn with the inner cover, so the primary drive would have to be stripped first.

A hammer and punch can be used to remove the lock ring if you don't have the special tool, Mick Hemmings says (in his gearbox DVD) that he prefers to use a hammer and punch.

But... while you're in the neighborhood... has the layshaft bearing been addressed?

Alright, good points, should probably just go ahead to do it as per manual. Not a big deal.

Yup, should probably do that. Damn.

ABout to remove the clutch operating body retaining ring. Is it, by chance a right hand thread?

For sure upgrade the lay shaft bearing, nasty things can happen if you don't.
