Direction of sleeve gear seal.

Hi I am in the gearbox, I have the AN rebuild kit. All has got smoothly but I don't know which way to put in this seal. Says lipped side first, which is that? there is a spring and on the other side the metal surround. Thanks, I don't want to destroy it if i found its in backwards.

in the seal you will find a spring. the spring always goes to the side you want to seal. in this case the spring will face to the inside of the gearbox

Yes. Face the springside inwards to the oil. Clean the bore with brake cleaner. Let it dry out. Then a light smear of Yamabond to the bore face. Tap it into place ever so carefully. Evenly around light tappings.

Thanks all, its in. However I buggered a sleeve gear bushing drifting in the gear. oops
