I have read in a few posts about the D type rods being an issue in the last of the Nortons. I have a 75 MKIII that I bought new in 77, that now has 72,000 miles on it. It has had a top end, pistons, valves, guides, hard seats, etc. The bottom end has never been apart, and still has good oil pressure. When I had it apart some years ago I did'nt pay any attention to the rods. I don't press the old relic, I just ride it along, 70 max.

My question here is am I living on borowed time? Or should it have pitched a rod long ago?

Seems to me they would have broken by now if they were going to. You may not have the D rods anyway. The next time you have the top end off you could check them.

In the meantime I think I would just keep doing what you've been doing!
