Looking to have my cylinders bored, (850) any leads in the upstate NY area?
Anybody used these guys
Micro Bore, Inc.
6041 E. Taft Rd.
North Syracuse, NY 13212
Thanks...............

Can't help there, but make sure they have done bike cylinders before.

If they are car guys, they usually bore the cylinders "upside down", and the spiggotts can get dangerously thin in places...

Thx. Im aware of the pitfalls. It is so hard to find people who
are on the up and up and know what they are about.
Also hate shipping heavy lumps as the price isnt cheap.
I asked Old Brits but Fred hasnt the time despite having the
correct set up and the knowledge.

Sorry that I cannot respond directly to your question but I can vouch for bore-tech in Batavia, OH.

Honestly, if you do not find a good service provider in your local community, when everything is said and done (your time and travel - at least two round trips), shipping will likely be cheaper. Furthermore, you will have the peace of mind that you are getting a job done by someone who specializes in this type of work. Just my two pence worth. I have no commercial nor personal interest at stake here regarding this recommendation.

Bore-Tech has an impreganated carbide process for the barrels if you desire. This has saved my hide on a few alloy barrel liner applications (high output road racing applications) where I was experiencing wear at an obscene rate. I have found that the cast iron barrels on a stock Norton, the material is a pretty good quality and durable.

Leo Geoff at Memphis Motor Werks in Memphis, of course, I'm sure would do right by you and it's not like shipping it across the whole country. He did a complete rebuild on my head and I'm happy with it. I would think there would be someone around NYC.

Did you ask comnoz?

The list of people I'd send a Norton part to for machining is pretty short. People like Leo Geoff don't do the work themselves anymore.

What I mean is that I bet Leo isn't in the shop anymore. I bet he tells people what to do but do you think he's still getting his hands dirty?

I'd bet he gets hands on more than you think. That is when is isn't playing blues down on Beale Street!!

I don't think Leo gets his hands dirty working on motorcycles . I KNOW he does ! He and Barry
are the only two guys who work in the machine shop there and Barry has all he can do working
on car stuff. Leo works on automotive stuff too when he needs to, but he is the only one I've
ever seen there working on Nortons , Triumphs , BMWs , Moto-Guzzis , Ducatis , HDs , etc . He
always has a bike on each of the two lifts , a few more waiting in line , and a half dozen engines
and components in various stages of work.

Fair enough.

Somehow I missed this post....I know it's from a few years ago, but I feel compelled to respond.
Yes, I do get my hands dirty.....every day!
After 51 years of doing this work, I have cut back my hours somewhat, so I can pursue my own restoration and race projects, but I'm in the shop every day!
I'm the only one touching any motorcycle part in the shop. So, if anyone sends in something, or has had something done by me, rest assured it was done by me personally!
Just wanted to clear that up! Happy New Year to all! Leo

Leo, you don't know me, but I have a Combat Commando that you did the engine overhaul for; it belonged to Ed McAllister.

I must say, it is without a doubt the best-running Commando I've ever ridden, and I've ridden several built by other top-name builders.
