After spending a lot of money .... what a satisfaction .... ...: Christmas greetings.

Cristmas greetings

Cristmas greetings

Buon Natale!

Feliz Navidad!

Joyeux Noel!

Happy Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

Piero - Nollaig shona dhuit!

...agus go n-éirí an bóthar leat (may your journey be successful).

From the damp, green island of Ireland.

(You are lucky your fork sliders are still straight after welding!!) :)

Dave

Dear Dave,

Yes, the two sliders are straight.
But I welded also another slider (the pinch bolt side) to put the attacks as the original ones for the second disc (I shot the original caliper cutting pliers and welding them attacks from the other side): this slider seemed perfectly straight but the stanchion with the bush found hard to scroll.
I turned the inside slider (there wasn't much to remove, just a clean) and now it works perfectly in axis.
I do not understand the concern of many riders on the subject, saying that the slider is too becomes twisted, I think the slider after a weld you can slightly change internally, but enough or a turning or milling to put everything back in place.
What do you think about?
ciao
Piero

One would expect to Hone it . Though a decent cutter would be superior as it would be ROUND , though the law of averages says hollows and bumps . :?

Typical H.D. sidevalve barrels were ' seasoned ' by use , before cutting to .003 over and fitting new pistons , for raceing . Heat / stress relieveing .
likewise , B M W scoured wrecking yards for the most used M1 or 3 or doodlebug :? engine blocks they could get . For their Formular one G P cars .

some have concerns regarding chrystaliseation at the weld , even saying inevitable . Would of course depend on weld material compatability & tecnique .
the bracket in Compression would be less strained than when in tension . Thus rear mouted caliper compresses the weld , Front mtd draws on it .
coolings better with em at the front. Particularly when its raining . :P

The trouble you have to go through to get a Christmass Card , these days .

Piero - I did not mean you to take my comment too seriously! I am glad that the welding worked out well and you must be a good welder and machinist.

Andover Norton seem to be a decent bunch of people that keep us supplied with parts and it's great that they sent you a card.

How often do you see classic British bikes on the road in Italy?

Dave

Dave,
believe me, i am not a good welder but Erasmo, my friend, is very good and he his my welder, not i.
I buy only from Andover, i write some time ago to RGM because i wanted to buy something, they answered me that i could order by a people of Rome, a riders club!!!
When i write to Andover for one order, also for a few parts, at soon i will receive the mail of Phil, is great and fast, i do not wish to change supplier.
In Italy there is a lot of old British bike.
My first was a Trident in 1982, sold, a Boneville after, sold, a Fastback, still i have from 1988, another Fastback in progress (you can see the photos in the picture topic) and another Commando Project (the sliders are parts of it) a Dunstallizzer cafe racer.
I love Norton and Triumph, but my best knowledge is for old Ducati that i had.
I live in Gaeta, on the sea, close to Rome (90 miles) where is located from 1950 the VI Nato Navy Fleet and so, from i was young, i have ever seen bikes and cars english and americans.
Also the Shore Patrol (Navy Police) used at those time Norton Interpol and Harley, i remember Harle with three wheels.
Ciao.
Piero

Here is my collection of Christmas cards from Andover in the last 3 years. Nice cards if I may say so. Signed on the inside from the staff.
