I am considering on bidding on this, as I have quite a few parts I could potentially use to build this up. Is this a forum members bike or anyone know about it?

My condolences to the PO.

Strange the exhaust nut pulled out of the head, almost looks like I can see half a weld bead, the sleeve ripped out

Yeah, I thought the same thing. Not so sure there is a weld, though and it doesnt really look like the threads ripped out from another pic. Hard to say. Maybe the pipes/wheel were bent together so much and they needed to disentangle the missing wheel so they unscrewed the exh nut?

Your lucky I'm not in NZ right now mate or I might have bid on it too

Hope you build it back up to a bike again and not part it out for parts. (But upgrade that front brake !!!)

Interstates are useful bikes at home because you need the fuel range with all the garages closing down now.

Well if the threads are pulled, it is an easy fix for comnoz and his machine shop, since he specializes in those types of repairs. Ditto on the front brake upgrade, fellow forum member madass140 has just the kit for that fix, as it comes with the new fork lower too.

I would do that. i have most of what I need for the front end in my parts bin. Time, however, is not in my bin...

The main frame backbone will be bent (well bent more than normal) and the 2 front downtubes will be splayed out from the headstock being forced down, so new frame or a good frame straightener is required.

Looks like a bad crash, a collision.

Does anyone know how the rider fared?

Typical of Phong a ree eye , ay cos '.

Good for a custom Egli'ish frame with Dewcati front end .

The tank'd knock out , and IN for the clip on clearance , like a Manx .

1 7/8 in. plug in SS high pipes & your there .

The pipe likely just popped out , New Threaded suckers would likely catch the tread fine .

Wow, auction finished at 6210 NZD = 4000 USD. Seems a bit rich to me...

And after spending a lot of money to fix it all up, then it will be up there with the high priced Nortons that have been showing up the last few years, I keep druming it in my kids heads that when I am gone not to sell my Nortons cheaply, but my youngest know her bikes, she is going for her bike licence soon and wants to ride my Thruxton but first she has to learn to kickstart the Norton as the project Manxman (caferacer build) bike will be hers to ride when finished.

Nice. My late teen girls not interested in the slightest. My 2 year olds already have their electric quad bikes...

Yes its a lot but a good Commando will get NZ$ 12,000 these days. So you have $6000 to fix it. This is probably a better deal than most rough Commandos that need everything fixed.

Note - I didn't buy or even bid on it!

Factor in a new frame.
What Fullauto and the other poster said. They don't do well in hard front enders, and the backbone, if bent, is very hard to straighten. Good frame men will shake their head and tell you to look for another one in that case.
