Significant work needs to be done to this 750 engine I am overhauling. One of them being the grounding of the crankshaft. I need to ground to 0.010" and fit new Big End Shells. CNN told me there is a guy in Florida which is quite familiar with Norton engines and would know the job (e.i. the critial 0.090" radius at each end of the Conn rod section of the crank shaft). I was also told he does crank balancing. Does anyone know his contact? Or of anyone else? CNW (if he does the balancing) might be a little too steep for my books unless someone can vouch otherwise.

Send it to Leo Goff at Memphis Motorwerks, 901 757-1009. Leo is an expert on Norton engines and a master machinist.

The fella in Florida is likely Marino of M.A.P. Cycle, who helped me cut my eye teeth on crank and other things but not doing or over seeing the work himself but sent out to other shops. I'd go with Leo if not just buying good replacement cheeks to touch up. There is a lot of jump rope strain on crank nearing red line so after the machining its not a bad idea to have radius shoot peened then whole crank cyro tempered along with the bearings. An upgrade for the 750's is to put in the fatter 850 fasteners. Its then worth while to spend another few $100 to have crank dynamic balanced.

I called them and a gentleman (Leo is out for the day) told me that they outsource the crank shaft grounding and balancing. Not too sure why I would have to go through a middle man?

Your friend who mentioned a company in Florida might also have been referring to Falicon, http://www.faliconcranks.com, who have done pretty much everything you can do with motorcycle crankshafts. They made a billet Commando crank for Kenny Dreer with larger mainshafts, and it is a thing of beauty. I've had them change stroke on pressed together cranks, and their work was very high quality. I haven't had them do any work for quite a few years, so I can't guarantee that they will still do work on Norton cranks, but it's worth a call.

I've also had work on a Commando crank done recently by Marine Crankshaft in Santa Anna, CA, and they are quite knowledgeable about British twin crankshafts. http://www.marinecrankshaftinc.com.
