Hi all, I have a crack in my crankcase in the area of the red rectangle in the attached picture (this is not a pic of my crankcase, just for illustration).

My question to is: is this an area that can be repaired with a welded repair, or am I looking at new crankcase set?

When I discovered this crack, I did search and buy a used crankcase set on ebay, which I could build up as a replacement.

All thoughts appreciated.

I live in the NYC area, and would also appreciate any leads as to who and where to have this issue resolved with repair.

my only thought is some one over tightened/forced the wrong thread stud in that hole.

TIG weld repair should be OK but be careful around the oil return hole from the head and check it,s clear when finished, 3/16" diameter I think. Any conrod damage apparent on the case underside surface?
My original Atlas engine had suffered a broken rod and was TIG welded and hand finished on the machined crankcase faces with perfect flatness as I recall.

Thanks all for the replies. I discovered the crack a long time ago, and have since left the bike in storage for years, partially reassembled to keep it all in one place.

When I start the disassembly process I will take lots of new pics of my actual situation, with the crack obviously.

Having now read most of the rebuild threads on the site, I feel a bit more confident in taking it all down.

Thanks again !
