I was wondering what are some of the views on the Corbin seat. Ive had a few in past on other bikes, the comfort worked well on some and not so with others.
What about height, higher, lower or same as stock seat. I own a 1975 MK3

Corbin has always placed form over function. Having tried both, my experience with motorcycle seat manufactures is Russell Day Long makes a far more comfortable seat than Corbin. Of course, the Corbin Gunfighter is a perfect form for the Commando and not too bad to ride on.

I have a Corbin gunfighter on my 850 and like it a lot except it's kind of wide. I first mounted it on the bike just before spending two weeks in the Sequoia mountains riding every day, the first day was a little brutal breaking it in then it seemed to form to me and has been very comfortable ever since. It is not a cushy seat, it is firm and flat but I like it. Mine needs to be reupholstered now so I think I will shave the sides in a bit to make it easier for my legs to reach the ground.

I have had a corbin for 6 or 7 years now ... I find it very comfortable .... however with my short legs I find it hard to locate and extend the sidestand because of the wide seat ... that is my only complaint and not a deal breaker for me ..

They are very firm, but they are... how can I say... very arse shaped! So they are far more comfortable than they first appear, and IMHO far more comfortable than the excuses for a seat fitted OEM!

Down side, as already mentioned, is the width, which may be an issue for those not too long in leg length. I'm 6ft and its basically perfect for me.

My 75 850 came with a Corbin Gunfighter. It's well used and I found it comfortable. I bought a new one for the rebuild.

I also have a Corbin on my 919 and it is very comfortable compared to the stock seat.

My Corbin came with the bike, no comparison to stock seat on my previous norton! Rode 7 hours on Labor Day and only discomfort was after 6 hours. 5'10" and touch flat footed easily. Highly recommend!!!

+1

My Russell gets confused looks from the style police, "wings" and all. Nothing comes close for function.

I have had the Gunfighter on my 850 Mk-II for 7-8 years. When I got it out of the shipping box my first impression was that it was very HEAVY and that it was very hard. I discovered that due to the shape of the seat that the hard foam is actually quite comfortable for me and I have found it comfortable for rides that last all day. It holds you solidly in a proper riding position and the bum stop shape keeps me from sliding around under the massive acceleration available... Unfortunately the heavy part will always be with you and weight is the arch enemy of a motorcycle.

I just replaced the seat on my BSA Super Rocket with one from RK Leighton. It has to be about the most comfortable seat I have ever sat upon. Sometimes I ride the bike just for the seat. The brakes are terrible, but what a comfortable way to die!
I think RK Leighton only does stock forms. Too bad, they obviously have a knack for creating comfort. This is no pared down plank of a seat though - it is loaded with lots of squishy foam and shaped just so...

I recently sat on a Corbin King and Queen seat custom made for a Commando riding couple. Apparently it fits them well, however it was immediately biting into my inner thighs at the outside edges and felt very hard everywhere.
Sometimes seats which feel great at first become quite painful after a few hours, however if a seat feels uncomfortable right off, it will not get better as the hours progress. My experience anyway.

Seat making is a tricky thing- the stock seat on the Triumph Daytona felt fine for an hour or so but had me grimacing in pain three hours into the Duffy loop. Replaced that seat with a Sargeant off the shelf item ,which has almost identical physical measurements, and I can ride the bike for 8 hours in complete comfort.

Actually RK Leighton will make custom seats to a degree, if they have something similar for a different bike. I wanted a Commando seat with a small hump, and as they do this type for a T150, they would make one specially for the Norton. As you rightly say, the quality is excellent.

When I bought a Gunfighter for my Mk3 a few years ago, they offered to shave .5 inches from each side. This factory mod produced a seat that fit me perfectly and addressed one of the few complaints heard about this seat (too wide).

I agree with the comments on a stiff seat, Its always better to have hard foam than sinking down to the seat pan. And also Ive gone though the gammet of seats, Russell(day-Long) Rick Mayer, Corbin, Sargent. Ive never found a stock seat I liked.

Looks beautiful, feels like an upholstered plank. Chafes the inside of the thighs.

I have Corbin Gunfighter seats on both my '74 and '75 Roadsters. They are definitely harder/firmer than the OEM seat, and
certainly wider. I find that seat height is lower. I am very short and while I don't like the extra width, the comfort is ironically
much better than the softer OEM seat especially for longer rides, and the hump back is a godsend when accelerating hard and
keeping ass in place. I switch back and forth between the Corbin and the OEM seat just for comparison, and always revert back
to the Corbin.

No one can dispute that the Corbin seat is very elegant looking, adding panache to an already gorgeous bike.

I bought a corbin for my build strictly for the looks. The one complaint I have is it is inhibiting for technical riding. The scalloped profile makes it more difficult to hang off the bike on spirited turns and the hump is too close to be able to slide back as much as I would like sometimes. It feels a bit restrictive in the twisties in other words. But it sure looks nice.

Delicate subject, but does anyone experience discomfort from the rising forward portion of the Corbin?
I have a seat that rises in front on the Vincent Special and this has caused incredible pain. Changing to riser bars took pressure off the old boys, but I will never forget that crushing discomfort from the raised front part of the seat when I had clip on bars fitted.
The Corbin looks like it could do the same sort of damage, though maybe only when combined with rearsets and low bars.

I had that very same problem with the stock low seat on my 08 BMW R1200R. Ouch!!!
I bought a Corbin seat for it and, while higher, totally solved the problem. Of course the
Corbin Gunfighter seat for the Commando is a totally different seat, nevertheless I have not
experienced any distress to my sensitive regions after thousands of miles with a Corbin on
my Commando.
