Just looking at the hot S-Type post, has anybody ever tried cooking a sausage or similar on a Commando cylinder head on a long journey (soup in a basket might be a problem)?

Apologies, I obviously have too much time on my hands! :-)

not on a commando ,but if you look at "cooking a rainbow trout on a 441 " on youtube it might give you an idea for some fish recipes ,and yes you do have too much time on your hands, cheers
 
The Commando`s head is far too hot for sausages, they would blister and burst within seconds. Just as my fingers did.
 
If you could rig up a small alloy tray to jamb in the fins, I recon it's do-able but your problem comes trying to keep the bangers in the tray at tickover
