hiya , first post so be gentle with me please ! I'm starting to restore a p11a(1967) and was wondering what would be required to convert to p11 spec ? i think a new frame loop has to be welded in ? how does the single seat fit ? do the hifi level pipes fit straight on ? and would the smaller tank fit as a direct replacement ? i have a fairly incomplete bike to start with so a lot of new parts will be required .was wonder if this 'conversion; is feasible .
thanks for your replys

Ignition key mount needs to be removed from frame and key relocated to between coils.
P11 side cover does not have the cutout to clear the key.
Rear seat mount pegs brazed to frame.
Rear frame loop added (as mentioned).
Different rear taillight necessitates different fender due to mounting holes.
Rear fender loop has different mounting tabs.
Remove chainguard and mounting tabs from swingarm.
Add silver striping to tank.
Original P11's had alloy oil tank, but many were converted to steel when the alloy tank cracked.
Hi pipes should mount directly using early spacers and bolts.

Since the numbers won't match to a P11 why not concentrate on changing the bolt on parts and make it easier to convert to a P11A at some point?

Good luck Andy,

Ron L. covered the differences well. I would just do the easy stuff and just mix and match.

Andy,

Here's what we're talking about; this is my 1st P11A bought new in May of `68. Over the years it had many color schemes and various handlebars. But it always remained a P11A. Do what's easy and enjoy what you have.

C-ya, Jer

PS I recommend getting an electronic ignition installed and set up well before you put on the high pipes. Working on the ignition with the left hand high pipe in place is way too difficult.
