Put some new clothes on today and decided to put two of the ladies together to decide which I like better. Can't decide. Doesn't really matter. I like 'em both:

Hi, nice bikes , just one question, what kind of side stand did you fit on your Seeley Mk 2 frame ? as I want to fit one on mine , for using it on public roads ........

The red bike turned out really nice, Joe. Of course, the Seeley is pure eye candy.

Hi Freefly,
Both are absolutely beautiful!!
What cylinder barrel is on the 750 Commando? Also, what rear fender are you using?

Ed

Both bikes have Steve Maney engines, so barrels are his.

The rear fender is standard Commando that I cut down myself and had painted:

That Seeley is an embarrassment ...

I'll come and take it away for you ...

With two Maney barrels, you are a prime man to ask: what did you do regarding cylinder head gasket arrangements and how successful were they at sealing?

Kenny Cummings built the Seeley engine from Steve Maney parts but with a Fullauto head and PW3 cam.

Steve Maney built the other engine with a standard Commando head that had been refurbished by Jim Comstock (Maney cam).

In both cases, the engines have a copper gasket between the barrels and cylinder head.

Both engines have more than 1000 miles on them now and have been re-torqued during the run in process and checked regularly.

I don't thrash either engine i.e. unusual to go past 5krpm, but both weep a little oil (not enough to be annoying) between the head and barrel. I understand that this is pretty common for Maney engines.

I haven't cleaned the red bike's engine for a few months now and you can see the usual amount of oil that has wept onto the barrel in the last pic of that bike.

Are both engines the same capacity?

How do the compare, power characteristics etc?

Both are 750cc. Both engines are Maney with Maney crank and FCR35mm carbs. But that is where the similarity ends.

Comparison is not easy as engines as cylinder heads, compression, cams, and gearing are all different.

Seat of the pants feeling to me, not from dyno, is that the Seeley takes off like a sling shot above 4krpm and revs past 8krpm like a race bike should.

The other bike has a smoother power delivery right through the rev range but lacks low down grunt simply because the front pulley on the Maney belt has a few more teeth than the Norvil unit I replaced it with. I'm intending to change the rear sprocket at some point but not in any particular rush as I like the taller gearing for cruising around town and the longest roads that can be found here in Malta (not much - need to take the bike to Sicily for a proper country cruise).

There is one guy with a dyno here. Thought of putting both on there just for the fun of it, but the results could not be meaningfully compared given the different set ups.

Next time you're in Malta, look me up and take em for a ride yourself.
