Are they supposed to be more metallic silver or light grey?

Are they supposed to be glossy or flat or satin?

My old set look a little golden silver but I don't believe that is from the factory.

Anyone have a good PPG code for this? Or are you using aerosol spray cans from the hardware store?

I used wheel paint from the local auto parts store with good result. It may be a little glossier than the original was but I really don't know what that was.

I'll forward the maker when I get out to the shop. It may not pass the purists.

I used Eastwood Argent silver wheel paint for most of that. Also had some pieces powdercoated and it was silver with clear over it. The clear kills the sparkle of the silver and looks perfect to my eye.

It is not supposed to be dull, at least on my '72 it wasn't. But aluminum is not the right color.

I used 'chrome' powder with clear and I thought it turned out pretty good to my eye. Not shiny, not chrome or silver.

I used a "Stainless Steel" color rattle can from Rust-Oleum, it mimmicks the silver over rough as-cast pretty well.

Thanks. I will look for that. The Rustoleum Aluminum does not look right. Too silvery.

I've found using clear over the aluminum/silver/chrome paint dulls it down a lot. You might try that and see if you like it.

You guys are over-thinking this.
I think originally Norton used the thinnest cheapest flat silver paint they could find. Probably war surplus stuff for painting quonset huts.
Just today I noticed how many new cars were painted silver. I thought most of these (Duplicolor) colors seem to be a good choice for the yokes (imho).
Whichever paint you use it seems a clear coat afterwards makes the silver look darker and richer and knock down some of the sparkle.

This guy did a nice test of a bunch of silver spray paints. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
