I know that the clutch plates [friction and steel] are a Suzuki part # but does anyone know if the clutch inner and outer are Suzuki parts and if so part #'s ? Thanks.

The folks at Norton UK have been very helpful and responsive so this is what I gather. The clutch on my 2015 sport is the old style which is no longer in use. The new style clutch can be retrofitted as a unit. The friction plates in my old style were a Suzuki part, and Richard-7 has identified them. The rest of the old style clutch is not Suzuki and I believe it was a specially spec
for Nortons main shaft. Mark.

Hi Britjunkie , That is great information. I have a 2014 so I have the old style as well. Did you get a price for the new clutch unit by chance ? Thanks

Evening all ,

What would be the expected mileage before the need to replace clutch plates?

I have a 2014 with the clutch basket already replaced after 3000 miles due to the rivets on the clutch basket failing,

Not sure if it was complete clutch basket and plates or just the basket .

cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I had same issue (rivets on clutch) and Norton said basket is the part but the plates were re-used.

The plates were, it seems, in incorrect order (between steel and friction plates).

I had a very noisy clutch and screech on take up.

Both gone after fixing last time round.

I realise have not answered your question on longevity but it sure would be nice to see some miles on this bike now.

Hi GKRyder

Not sure of extent of work done with clutch replacement after basket failed .

Clutch seems fine so far .

Just had the airbox and ecu upgrade done about 6 weeks ago .

Not running well with Aussie fuels :(

I have a Power Commander v coming , should be installed by end of next week to sort out fueling problems .

Installed and dyno $800 aus

Hope to get some miles on the norton :)

Will keep you posted on results ,

Cheers

Paul

That awesome news re Power Commander!
Who's doing that for you?

I'm Sydney based and have been happy with Caltex 98 though she does run quite rich but Fuelling is great.

I did a bit more than 21'000 miles, recognising the clutch noise as well but since long. Didn't think about clutch replacement yet...

Hello
Did in the meantime anybody with the old style clutch assembly change to the MkII version?
Any experiences?

g'day Paul, i have a local bike in my workshop that's only done 1314 klms & has clutch / balance gear noise issue.
the clutch basket has 2-3mm movement in the basket / gear so i'm assuming its the same problem?
do the rivets fail & was Norton replacing these under warranty?
this bike having only done 1314 klms but a 2015 model would be out of warranty.
i'm not getting much response from either Norton or the local dealer
regards

My clutch was fixed through the dealership.
It wasn't just general clutch noise it was full on clatter bang crash.
The oil was drained and chunks of metal came out.
Have you contacted Brisbane Motorcycles? they have been great to deal with even bikes out of Warranty.
cheers
Paul

g'day Paul, thanks for the reply, i've emailed the Norton factory twice & got one reply saying they would contact the local distributor & no word from either & that was 12 days ago! i forwarded those emails to a new dealer in Melbourne & he replied saying they would look into the issue, that was 4 days ago.....

I would like to see photos of the New Clutch that Norton now produces for the new bikes. This is the inside of my clutch basket which is different than the earlier machines as well David said. I would also like to know what has been improved with its construction. There were no problems of any kind with my clutch . Rivets tight , cush drive springs tight , ring gears tight .
