I'm putting my '74 850 Commando back together and am in the process of assembling the clutch. There are 3 rivets (one of mine is missing) that run through the the back of the clutch basket and appear to hold a backing plate in place. The two rivets still in my clutch basket are so loose that the backing plate drops out of the basket when it's inverted. Is that plate supposed to be attached to the clutch basket so that it doesn't come off? There's a previous thread on the forum that discusses this issue and it appears that the main function of the rivets is to properly position the backing plate in the clutch basket. It isn't clear if the plate is loosely riveted to the basket or just there to index the backing plate and not necessarily attach it to the basket. Additionally, there doesn't seem to be a part number for those rivets in the parts list, am I missing that? If there isn't a part number, what are people using for those rivets? Any light any of you can shed on this question will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim
