Hi
A buddy of mine has recommended JRC Flatsides for my 750 Commando, he reckons they perform well? Any feed back on these carbs they look the business, OK originality is compromised but hey we all want rip along without problems.

Mikuni would be carb of your dreams , just sayin’ , fit and forget ....

JRC is not jim schmidt (JS Motorsport). so i would check out what JRC has and what support they would offer. if you do a check on this website you find a number of individuals who have the PWK flatslide carbs and are happy, you will also find some who were never happy until they removed them.... start a search and read...

thats your homework lesson for the next few days.... then make an educated decision

They need some modifications to make them work for a Norton. You must order special needles separately from JRC because they come supplied with 2 stroke needles. Tuning is tricky and you have to have an ear for distinguishing a lean or rich mix to find a good idle because they don't give the same mixture feedback as Amals. Once dialed in they are fantastic but they are not plug and play and some people don't have the knack to tune them. If you go for them I'll email you the modification list that I go through but after that you're on your own. I will no longer sell them even though I have a pair on my motor that run and idle perfectly. If you get them to work they will blow away Amals and regular Mikunis power wise but from my experience - about one out of a hundred is defective.

Is this Commando modified or relatively stock? If relatively stock

FWIW, you are not going to get more power out of a relatively stock bike than a set of Concentrics can provide. If you want the flatslides because you like the look, don't like tickling/enrichners, or some other reason that's certainly your choice but performance-wise a new set of Amals will give you all the performance the bike can produce and are essentially plug and play compared to the flatslides.

Yep your probably right, I do like the simplicity of the Amals and now that they have the removable pilot jet it makes them easier to keep in tune, I know they are more expensive but I don't do complicated.

Flatslides are illegal in classic racing because they give an unfair advantage over round slide carbs. You can feel the mid range roll on power difference on a stock street bike because they are more efficient at partial throttle than round slides. If a high quality flatslide was available, and it was small without clearance problems and not outrageously expensive like the Keihins, then everybody would be buying them. But such a carb doesn't exist.
