After switching off my 750 1971 Norton commando,it would not restart.
This has happened before and I took the carb off and cleaned it,it worked ok.I read on a forum about switching off the petrol taps while the bike was running, but wondered why this would help. Can anyone explain this,as its happened again.the spark is ok. cheers Rob

The only reason I can think of, for turning off the gas before switching off, is to lower the fuel level in the carbs with a mind to keeping the idle jet(s) dry to avoid the deposits associated with ethanol. I do this myself, but I don't let it run dry.
If I had your problem, I'd be looking at the kill switch first, clogged idle jet second.
