Hi, what wire do you guys recommend to secure the cam followers screws which separate the two guides David

I used .032” annealed stainless safety wire.

+1 on the replies.

Don't listen to the cheap bastards that will tell you how they turned down a piece of coat hanger or summoned a major miracle, on road side, by getting away with using a piece of their questionable lineage Jordan Air sneaker laces...

Aircraft Spruce is an excellent outfit to deal with. Only the highest quality goods from those folks. Maybe lower on shipping than AN, but wouldn't know seeing as you're CW.

Most good marine supply stores will stock safety wire in either annealed stainless or monel. The pedestrian version of this is called "mechanic's wire" and is available from lots of locations by the pound. It's probably what was originally used. While I wouldn't use shoe laces, I don't feel a huge need for stainless wire to secure carbon steel inside a cast iron barrel. But that's just me. A drop of thread lock (Locktite) would be a consideration in addition to the wire.

PS - The stainless is certainly easier to find in this day and age. Most hardware stores don't even stock plain steel bolts or screws anymore!
