Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drought

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

When it rains in MotoGP, anything can happen. Always admired Cal's style, but it seems like it takes a few laps for him to get up to speed whereas the top guys are fast from Lap 1. Here's a shot of him I took at the COTA MotoGP several years ago.

And with a pair of ducks winning last time out, and Jack Miller winning at Assen in/after the rain ( and having a bike usually in the back ranks) its been a rather topsyturvey season. Not to mention Jorge hating this years tires in the rain....

35 years though ? - Carl was winning on superbikes when the 500's were still large lawnmower engines.

Last Brit GP winner was Barry Sheene. On one of those glorified lawnmowers that were a lot faster than the Superbikes of the day with only half the displacement. Foggy tried GP racing, too-on a Cagiva.

Take 'em down to Florida to kill those Zika skeeters.

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

Heh heh.

It used to be quoted that only 3 or 4 riders at best (per season) ever really mastered those stroker beasts.
Now in MotoGP its more like 4 or 5, and the guys down the back at least have a sniff if all the frontrunners go by the wayside. Maybe MotoGP's should only ever be run on rainy days ?

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

With Cal's solid 2nd place in last weeks race at Silverstone, and the 4th new winner in the past 5 races,
and quite a number of different winners this year, MotoGP 2016 is shaping up as one of the best years ever ?
And seeing 2nd to 7th dicing like it was a Moto3 race can't be bad....

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

Cal qualified on pole on his satellite Honda beating the two works Hondas of Marquez as well as the works Ducatis, Yamaha, Suzuki e.t.c.
WTF is going on :?: :?: 8)

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

If you look at the lap times of a typical MotoGP race, especially the qualifying laps, the Top Ten machines are usually within one second from first to last. So ALL the machines are fast, but it comes down to setup and rider consistency.

Cal was penalized 1.5 seconds at Misano yesterday for cutting the track, but the penalty was later rescinded. he claimed the sweat-absorbing pad in his helmet didn't work and his vision was impaired by moisture inside the faceshield. Just goes to show how many factors can affect a rider's performance on a given day.

Re: Cal Crutchlow wins at Brno ending 35-year British drough

Did I hear mention of its now 8 different winners in 12 races.
(without counting)
That is quite remarkable...

All they need to do is run the landscaping sprinklers during the race.
