I just picked up a load of parts and there was a "C and J custom frame" in the lot. Looks like its lowered and raked a little. Anyone have any experience with these? The man had the frame made in NJ 40 years ago and never used it. Came with 16" back wheel and extended front forks. Made specifically for his 850 Commando. Here are some links to the photos:

Don't know anything about that custom frame but the rear isolastic mount looks dicey

q,

C&J made some of the most competitive flat track frames available back in the early 70’s including some for Ron Wood. Jeff Cole was the one that started the company with a partner. Jeff is inducted in the motorcycle hall of fame. He sold C&J many years ago but the company still exists. Jeff went on to work with Honda and also some formula 1 teams building race car chassis. He is a legend in the industry for sure.

I was able to pull Jeff out of retirement a few years ago and we together designed the Cafe frame I used for my Ltd production Cafe’s. He built 14 frames and swing arms for me. Absolutely beautiful frames. Amazing guy that is as nice as he is talented

That said, I had no idea that he may have made some custom frames like the one in your pictures. If you get a hold of me in my shop, I will put you in touch with Jeff to see if he can shed some light on what you have there

Email is best..... nortonworks@fone.net

I know right where that shop would have been. Must have been quite a scene back in the day, bit of a rough area! I think it is currently a vacant lot.

What are your plans for the frame?

Not sure right now. I have 2 commandos to finish before it. The truth is I am a bike assembler... I am not a fabricator. It may be a bit beyond my skills. I will see

Latest update from C & J is that this is not one of their frames. Perhaps a different c & j? Anyways I dont have the skills to build out a bike like this. If anyone is interested I would consider a swap for a standard commando frame. I have new extended tubes and a 16" back wheel that came with it.

Ya I saw that ad too when I googled them. They are just not the same C & J that Matt referenced in his reply. Nevertheles, the frame is available if someone is interested. If not I may try to build it out in the Summer.

If you do build it up please make sure you sort out the rear isolastic mount, there's probably some out there that are built that way that are fine? but it's not worth chancing in my opinion
It would also need a substantial head steady
Cheers

I still have this frame if anyone is interested. PM me an offer

Ya that is out of my league. Plus I have 10 other Nortons to keep me busy
