Hi Gents,

Could someone tell me the exact width of a inflated Bridgestone BT 46 rear tyre in 110/90 dimension for a 18" rim ?

It should be 110 millimeters but not sure as a BT 45 that I tested before was a bit (2-3 mm) too wide, whereas a Metzeler Lasertec in the same dimensions was OK.

Which makes me think that dimensions do not mean the same thing for different providers.

P.S. The swinging arm is a Slimline Featherbed with De Luxe rear chain case type.

Many thanks,

Laurent

Might not be the data you're after but...
The BT45 (120/90 x 18) on mine has width of 116mm and fits with minor but safe clearance into a Commando ('74 Mk 2 850) swinging arm.

Thanks for your prompt answer Rob.

It confirms what I learned in the meantime from a friend: his 110 BT45 is actually 108 mm wide. So the nominal width (i. e. 120, 110) seems to be a bit larger than the actual one, which suits me!

Don't forget that the measured tire width will change depending on the width of the rim you plan to use. When mounted on a narrow rim, like a WM1 a tire will be both narrower and a different shape then the same tire mounted on a WM3 rim...

When I changed my commando over to yamaha cast wheels, the existing tire on the rear rim was a 120/90/18 and it just barely cleared the drive chain mounted on a WM3 rim. It was too close for my liking, so I replaced it with a 110/90/18 which has the minimum amount of space between the chain and tire that I consider reasonable.

Also taking into account that most Commandos run on tyres too wide for the rims. The most common problem.
