What is the best cam/crank/piston position for easy head install, engine in bike?
piston at TDC?
pistons mid stroke?
pistons BDC?
or something else?

I am almost ready for head install, checking ARP head bolts, fiber gasket holes appear too small on some.

Mick Hemmings video tell you to get the pushrods as level as possible by rotating the crankshaft. If your putting the head on an engine which is in the bike then put the pushrods up into the head and hold them there as you rotate and tilt the head forward. You may need another pair of hands to help you along. Best to use rubber bands on the rockers to keep tension on them. Wrap the rubber band on the LH intake and on the LH exhaust acrooss the top and then do the same on the other side. (I use the R/B from the vegetable section from the supermart that hold bundles of Asparagus ;)). Once the head is in possition put a head bolt or spacer between the head and the barrel. You want a small gap to help you offer up the pushrods into the balls on the tappets by using the heads weight to hold it in this configuration and the rubber bands keeping tension on the balls and cups. Once you made sure everything is home in their locations, take the bolt spacer out and bring it all the way down onto the head gasket. Recheck that the balls are still in the puchrod cups by using a strong flashlight or Torch. Bring the head down to contact the gasket mating surfaces turning the head centre bolt #1 in your shop manual. Recheck again the ball/cup position has not gone out of possition. Rock the engine crankshaft back and forth and verify eveything is lined up as it should. Cut off the rubber bands and start bolting the rest of the head fasteners to their spec and bolt pattern tightening sequence. Good luck.
