Kicking around the idea of flying out to the Barber Event. Can anyone suggest a hotel or area to look at that would be close?? Just going to rent a car and need some advice on a nice area to lodge as I will be bringing the Warden. Thanks in advance guys, Chuck Horton.

I stay at the Birmingham Hilton Perimeter Park. Its probably booked by now. It's where the Ducati people stay, along with the Dime City and Ace Cafe folks. Though about 8 miles from the park, the road in to Barber is a real nice ride, and there a half dozen restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, with a killer breakfast in the hotel itself. If you know any of the Ducati group, maybe they've got a spare bed? I've got 4 already, or else I'd offer.

Barber has revised their ticketing this year - they'll mail you the wrist bands about two weeks before, so you don't have to sit in line and exchange your ticket for a wrist band. Last year was a bit grueling Friday and Saturday mornings, with up to an hour wait to get in. Its also a much friendlier place for bikes than for cars. I ride in from the hotel. There are a dozen other hotels on this same strip (highway 280 in Hoover)

It's easy enough to stay on the east side of Birmingham and take a 10 minute drive. Plenty of Hotels, restaurants and shopping.

I was going to suggest camping with an acquaintance in the pits, but I see you are bringing your own acquaintance...

We stayed here the last time. Awesome location and if you're on a bike the road to Barber is a treat. Even if you aren't it's the "secret" backroad.

You head east on 280 and the north past Purdy Lake.

Got my envelope from Zoom Motorsports yesterday - They're sending the wristbands by mail in paper envelopes. My envelope was torn, probably in the mail sorter, and the wristband was not in the letter - my camping passes were, though.

Sent an email back to Zoom, with a picture of the envelope.

Maybe they should have used Tyvek envelopes.

Anybody else have problems?

Got a reply email from Zoom - new wristband on its way - should get it tomorrow or Thursday.

Maybe a Tyvek envelope in future.

Heading out to Barber early tomorrow. The Seeley/Nourish (#29) is ready to be flogged. Looks like the weather is going to be with us through the weekend.

I'll be with the NYC Norton race team entourage in the paddock so feel free to stop by and say hello.

Hi all,

Here are a couple of links to my photo albums from the recent Barber Vintage Festival. Great event! Enjoyed it so much, I hope to go back in future years.

My shutterfly link, best viewed as a slide show or one photo at a time: https://mymotolife.shutterfly.com/7607

And my YouTube video, more or less the same pics but in a movie format. I may have to do something about that awful music?:

Feel free to share any info or comments with me.

I like to call this Norton critical mass at Barber Vintage Motorcycle Festival. Some well known and well respected Norton builders in this photo serendipitously dropped by in the paddock.

From Left to right we have Herb Becker, Jim Comstock, Kenny Cummings and John Gregory.

Barber Event

The only one missing that I can think of is Leo Goff.

Great weekend and great visiting with everybody.

Nice shot,

Lots of Norton Knowledge there!

Happy New Year,

Jerry
