Rebuilt my 1972 750 after 30 years off the road and is running sweet as a nut after a 250 mile try out, the tickover has not changed much but on switch off it gives a backfire at the ehhaust and a popping through the carb, have checked valve clearance and plug gaps and the Pazon ignition is still in line. I am worried that the popping through the carb could cause it to catch fire. Any suggestions lads ??

Does it pop when you turn the key on & off, or only when shutting down while running?

Sounds like the "wasted spark" is igniting some excess fuel. Drop the float levels a bit.

Whilst you are in the carbs, make certain the jets and holders are nipped up.
