Back on the bike, happy!

What happiness today, six weeks after my operation, I ride a motorcycle again.
I did 100 kms today, 100 kms of pure happiness, the MV Magni is on fire.
I found a trick to get my ruined leg over the saddle:
I put the bike on its side stand, I put my good left leg on the footrest and I stand up, my right leg then passes easily over the saddle.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with my surgeon for a check-up.
Before my operation I had said that I would be on a motorcycle after three weeks, I'm sorry, it took me six weeks.

the weather is warming up here and I rode to work just this morning, took the cover off of the little honda and it started, so off I went. Again, it's good to hear from you

Every year we have new homicidal car drivers, this year I gat the feeling that they from 2024 are already there

My Cromwell helmet is 55 years old, I buy it when I was 16, I know it is not the safest, but I love him

Good to hear Yves, love the helmet but here in Aussie land it would be illegal to wear, but then they make rules to be broken, glad its working out for you and we wish the injuries heal quicker but sometimes they take a bit longer, and able to do 100 km for the first ride is a good sign.

Of course the Cromwell helmet is ilegal in Belgium, but I like to broke the rules!

A few years ago an old guy wearing a pudding-basin helmet fell off a classic bike on a club run in Victoria. Be was only doing about 60 KPH, but did not survive. In the old days, pudding-basin helmets combined with drum front brakes accounted for a lot of road race casualties. At least your bike has a very nice twin disc front end.
One of my friends said 'every time we fall off during racing, we could be killed'. To me that is possible but not highly likely.

I have two Cromwell's, which are illegal (unapproved) in Australia, but what do they know?
I have been given sage advice not to wear that helmet (with Cromwell logo) in Ireland.
Once things settle down I'll be taking my bike to IOM and N Ireland - to tracks that my Grandad frequented.

Sometimes a helmet won't save your life, just keeping a good eye out in what is going on around you is better, one of my best mate's got killed in a crash, not a mark on him but broke his neck from his full face helmet, so really lots say full face helmet are the best, didn't help my old friend and to this day I prefer to ride with my open face helmet, better vison and able to turn my head more.
The old pudding helmet do look good on a old classic bike but.
But then look at some of the gear young ones wear today on their powerful rice burners, my youngest daughter just got back into riding bikes her first road bike a Triumph 650 triple she came around the other day with her BF she is on L plates so has to ride with a open licence rider till she goes for her test in 3 months she had all the good riding gear on but the BF on his high powered Honda had a jacket, good helmet and gloves but down below shorts and soft sneekers without socks, a real young man trendy look, as we all know the legs do get bad injuries.
