Not confidence inspiring. I doubt it will do you any good but Id send a note to Avon about it.

If you bought the tire from a dealer he should be able to work with Avon and resolve your problem and Avon will probably take care of you too.
Twice I had the Avon radial Storms (rear) tire on my Hinckley Triple replaced free from Avon because of uneven wear. No questions asked. My dealer stood behind me and followed the process through for me.

there has been considerable comments on other vintage bike sites (laverda forum for one) about Avon roadriders cracking / splitting in the center area. Apparently avon has replaced a few, so they are aware of it but the reports continue.
I personally like the road rider tires, but because of these reports i am a bit hesitant to purchaser any more until there's a official comment from Avon about corrections toi the effected areas, so i've been using other tires (bridgestone/pirelli) if they are available for my bikes tire sizes

( i replace my tires every other year regardless of mileage to keep them fresh)

Vintage tyres here in the UK have just returned a tyre to Avon for investigation as it is not normal according to Avon. My first tyre cracked at the crown when it was near the wear markers, so thought nothing of it. The second tyre was from one of the new 'improved' tyres from late summer last year and not even completed a 1000 miles. The first tyre was used with pressures from the Commando maintenance instructions, the second with the pressures from the Avon website for the Commando, there is a difference and I believe that the Avon pressures are too high.
I am now on my third tyre, but have only completed 45 miles on it so too early to tell if it going to be OK or not, if it fails then it back to the road runners for me.
Avon and Vintage tyres have been brilliant with their customer service.

Just had the reply from Avon tyres here in the UK, Kev Pattinson says it has been caused by mechanical damage of the tyre hitting the underside of the bike or scuffing. I did send him the link to this thread so he could read it himself, but still the same reply. Whilst there is no report of someone damaging themselves with the roadrider then I think they will keep to the 'Nothing wrong with tyre line' I would imagine it is easier to admit to nothing at this stage as a recall and the associated bad press would hit the company hard.
I am now going to use the new tyre with a lower pressure as per my first tyre which gave good service as I think the Avon website pressure is to high and the torque is causing the small contact patch to slip[under hard acceleration causing the damage to the crown of the tyre. Shame this can't be sorted, as it is a good, handling tyre.

Are you sure you don’t have a hungry rodent of some sort that likes a snack when you are not looking :?:

If you live in the UK and still have the receipt for the tyre, I would take it to any mainline tyre dealer who is registered as a BTMA.

LOL, nope, that one with the funky sharp notches in the center was spooned on Sunday, left on a trip Monday, pic was taken the following Sunday. I'm in the US, looking for receipt now. Avon did reply to me, "contact the dealer", which I will do.

I run the same A. Roadriders and love 'em. But yes I feel the recommended tire inflation pressures here are too high . Next time try a few lbs. less ? Good luck with Support , standard response liability statements don't address a problem correctly early enough I.M.O.

I've done my share of rear tire spin on and off road on Avons for only extra normal tire wear no cracking of contact area even on old hard visible side wall cracked Avons I used up for the pure economy or over stressing tire fun now and then routinely. I am pissed off with myself for following the mis guided wisdom to me of those saying they like 90-100 size Avons on front d/t handing ease but has lowered my confidence significantly d/t lack of slowing grit with too easy squealing and lock up snatch downs that is wearing out the center almost as fast as I wear out rears. Point being how can I stress front harder than your rears and only see wear loss not cracking ?? Trixies front is about 3 yr old with ~6000 miles on it. Trixie's rear has been WOT to red line tested-worn for about 200 miles a couple years ago when exploring limits of factory Combat to get out my system yet no cracks. Maybe someone at factory sabbotaged a batch of tires and fired now.

What is the manufacturing date code on these tires? Concours, I am not saying that this is your issue, but it does beg the question.

You mean riding riding above parade speeds? Guilty.

Avon told me to run 32 front and 35 rear with my Road Riders on my Commando

and so I have done that for the past 15 years, seems perfect to me
