Does anyone know with any certainty how long 100 octane av gas lasts? I have been told easily one year and others have said two. Been unable to even start bikes this year due to health issues. If I asked this before, I apologize but the memory ain't what it used to be either.

I've had the stuff for multiple years and as long as it doesn't evaporate, it's fine. I have some in my fiberglass tank that must 5 years old and I'm very sure if I go out there tomorrow and try to start it, it will start on the 1st or 2nd try. I may actually do that tomorrow and let you know.

I used to get it at the local airport, but they decided not to sell it in containers any more, but there's a Sunoco station in Warrenton VA that sells all sorts of 'racing fuel'. I get the 110 because it's the cheapest, $60/5 gal. I use it in my Stihl equipmnet, it runs better and doesn't clog up so much. Wonderful stuff, smells good too. It's got the blue die in it just like avgas. But when it evaporates, it leaves no trace other than the blue color which just washes off next time. The Stihl dealer also sells the 100 octane, but they want $80/5 gal.

I have 5 year old AVGAS in some bikes that don’t get ridden. They start and run like new.
Add Sta-Bil and run it in well, it’d be easy to see more.

not av-gas, but I've had non-ethanol 89 octane w/ sta-bil in my portable generator for over 2-1/2 years w/o issues. it would start it and run fine. when I drained it for new, I dumped the old in the wife's SUV - it didn't seem to have any ill-effects. just sayin'....

Nothing official but I've cranked up and flown (ferried) airplanes that had been parked for several years with no problem. It's extremely stable fuel but I think officially 1 year.

+1 on the current responses. I use the 100LL to winterize all my motorcycles. A few caveats: 1) drain the tank and carbs. 2) I add about 1 US quart, slosh it around then take a 3-5 minute ride. 3) drain carbs. This has worked well for me, but I still mix Techron (per instructions) for the first tank when re-commissioning in the spring.

If your bike is stored outside or where it feels the temp swings a full tank is best, but the Av-gas may have an anti-knock index that makes your ignition timing feel retarded which will reduce engine performance; not a deal breaker, just be aware and don't go chase the debenture nut or the muffler bearings in the spring.

For those of you that do not have temperature controlled storage, consider paragraph 1, then remove the tank and battery and put them where they experience stable temps/humidity. Storing a bike with low fuel where the temps swing will cause rust; storing the battery in the same situation will greatly shorten its useful life.

If it is easier to get to a marina you should be able to find fuel with no alcohol, much less expensive, no performance issues, fill-er-up.

Best.

Thanks to all that replied. I thought it would be ok as the tank was full when I stored it. Not ideal storage but better than outdoors. May get a chance this weekend so will let you all now how it goes.

If your purpose in using avgas is for storage, Stabil in normal gasoline is good for at least a year. I have had cars and motos stored for longer than that with normal gas/Stabil and when the battery is re-connected, the engine starts as if it was running yesterday. I would assume other brands of stabilizer would do the same but Stabil is the only one I have used.
