Hi all
Having some difficulty finding all gears and took the outer cover off to check the spring clearance on the pawl and it is about .005 both sides. Not sure I get why the gear change selector ratchet plate has six accommodations to receive the pawl when the box is a four speed. Are the inner two either side of the pin that engages the cam plates not used? I guess what I am asking is which gear change ratchet plate indentation (that the pawl engages with) represents 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. Prior to fastening up the inner cover I did run the box through all gears by moving the arm in the opening

Need something for the pawl to land on going up and going down. Hence all the teeth (3 facing one way and 3 facing the other) on the rachet plate.

I kinda don't think the pre-Commando boxes had the clearance spec both sides of the spring like the later Commando box does. My P11 specifies the pawl should should touch both sides of the spring. Yeah I know, that can't be right. Quote out of the manual. "Make sure that the legs of the spring are on each edge of the pawl to enable it to trip and engage with the rachet plate." Straight leg of the spring goes on top. TTi gearbox fixes all that at an hefty price.

Primary chain might be too tight is another possibility.
