Are Avon AM26 Roadrider 100/90-19 Front/Rear Tires the only thing that works with WM2 rims and staying with 19 inch on the rear besides the Dunlops TT 100 tires that I am trying to get away from?

You can get a 90-90 Roadrider for the front but that is a front only spec so you couldn't finish it off on the back

I did that, but it's really a skinny tire. I'll be going back to a 100/90 when the time comes to replace.

The 100/90 Roadriders are a "universal" tyre. The difference is they only have about 2/3rds the tread depth of the Avons for rear fitment, so they don't last as long. I run them until the rear wears out, then the front goes on the rear and the new one on the front.

I've been using Conti Go 3.25x19 "front" tyre on the rear of my Wideline, for a few years now.

So what did you run for a front tire?

Roadrider.

Also, why do they have front and rear tires if you can run a front on the rear? Just wondering.

"They" are in business. There may be a difference, but they're all just motorbike tyres. I don't care: the bike steers pretty good.

Regarding fronts on the rear of a 19" 'd Commando WM2, I too have often wondered just what would be the consequences, if any. Just put the 'front' tire on the back with the arrow backwards? Really, think of bias tire construction and ask yourself what would be wrong with that. We are not talking 100+ HP here.

Well, I don't know about other countries, but here in the UK, you would be effectively be risking waving goodbye to your insurance cover in the event of an accident if you were found to have such a 'wrong' tyre.

You'd also be at risk of a ticket and 3 points from an eagle eyed copper I suspect.

Let me rephrase. Not talking legality in any specific locals, merely what any actual performance issues may be at play, if any. Many front and rear tire sets have the same tread pattern but depending on mounting location the rolling direction of the pattern is reversed. Would not that work with Commandos? Are the carcasses built differently? Or is the unique 19" front/rear spec of the Norton just off the radar of tire manufacturers (except for Dunlop & Avon as far as I know) to bother with an arrow for < ROTATION FRONT WHEEL, > ROTATION REAR WHEEL.
19" street tires, particularly in the 100/90 size are not that popular period, so it would stand to reason 'front/rear' designations would not be bothered with by the manufacturers who do offer them,,, just for Commandos and Tridents.

Just thinking is all, not trying to convince anyone one way or the other.

Well, we can live our lives like that, or we can be men.

Conti classic attacks are now available - pretty pricey though, and I think these are the next generation above roadriders. Not tried them myself, but they can be had most from most dealers in the UK.

Where did you gain your Batchelor of Laws degree?

I have no law degree TT. But if a tyre says 'front fitment' on it... and its fitted to the rear... it seems like potential trouble to me.

Wasn't having a dig at you, we all break the laws we are happy to break and I'm as 'guilty' as anyone (noise, number plate size, speed limits, etc). I was just pointing out to those considering this option, that they would be adding to their own list.

You pays yer money and makes yer choices....

Well I failed a BSc in 1976!

As for the Conti front on the back, I just fancied trying something different and it may have been slightly cheap as well.

Now it's on it feels good.

Bit the bike's not even a Commando.
