Does any one know of a good workshop or mechanic who can work on commando's in the Brisbane area and do a good job.??????

What problem do you have, I have been working on Nortons for over 40 years now and have rebuilt a few engines and gearboxes, you can PM me if you like, I am on the N'side of Brissy.

You could try Norcom (they sometimes lurk on this site or you could google them) they might be able help or point you in the right direction.

I know of another bloke on the northside if you want to PM me.

Cheers

Norcom is very good and uses Andover Norton parts only. Not the cheapest but very good and specialises in Commandos only.

Anyone know any good Norton specialist in Nth Qld? I'd like to give my 72 Roadster a complete restoration, which I'd like done to the highest professional standard (which is why I won't attempt it). I got the bike at a good price, so I've got plenty of spending room to bring the bike up to perfect, before it starts becoming an uneconomic exercise. The bike's in not too bad condition. It runs, & has no oil leaks. It just needs it's brakes, suspension & brightwork refreshed. I won't be able to ride it until I get a shoulder replacement later this year. So there's plenty of time to sort the bike out. But I would like to get started on it soon. So any suggestions would be appreciated. I think Brisbane may be a bit far to ship the bike, but if that's my closest reputable specialist, I'll do it. I care more about getting the bike done right than I do done cheaply, though obviously, I want to get the best bang out of my bucks, & I don't want to waste money needlessly. I'm aiming to bring the project in under $5K. Though I could stretch to $7K & still stay under the bike's retail ceiling.

I have just finished rebuilding my mates 73 750 Roadster motor, gearbox and Primary, I haven't been payed for all my time and work but he payed for all parts and rebore, he payed $4,000 for the bike (basket case) and has spend over another $5,000, to make it look like new and thats both him and me doing all the work, if you pay someone else to do the work you will be paying over $100 a hour just for labour cost, so rebuilding your Norton by a professional will cost you maybe more than what you have to spend, I rebuild Nortons as a hobby and have been doing so for over 40 years now, so I could be intrested in helping you out if you can't get a good rebuilder up your way, my cost would be way less than a professional and I take pride in what i do and do it properly, just paint jobs now are getting expensive, I have a mate here in Brissy that only just does paint jobs on motorcycles and is very good at what he does, it all depends on how far you want to go with your rebuild.

Gidday . How good is this. Warms the heart of a fair dinkum cane toad.

it is very good to see such co-operation of Commando owners in Queensland..
Anyone care to have a guess how many Commando's are registered in QLD???. Have to be a hundred as a guess.
And also that Commando workshops are still alive. Today blokes like Ashley are very far and few between.
Best wishes bradley

Thanks guys, I seem to have found the right guy in Brisbane, hopefully he will have my E start purring. No E start brings back those old "cranky Atlas" memories I had put way back in my memory, whilst the electronic ignition Commando is a pretty reliable starter, it still takes a hefty kick.

Here here!

Whilst these Commandos don't go or stop like an R1, they are still quite rideable with all the modern upgrades and they all have "CHARACTER" which at my age is most important.
