Anyone had this happen?

This happened to my son. Has anyone else had this happen?
Phil

That's a weird one. How did it happen? Too much clearance, broken valve spring, high speed valve float? Or just a defect?

I want to know how, and where he found the end piece. I would also like to know how he got it out.

He rode about a mile back home When I took the head off it was laying just outside of the exhaust valve spring Once I got it off the other side did the same thing Thay only had 500 miles on them Im thinking it is a defect The intake ones looked fine I ran it a little hot when i was dialing in the carbs Dose anyone think that could have done it? All 4 wer new

Wassell used to do nice Aleen Key ones , BLACK ( hardened ) not only lighter but easier to set .

May well pay to replace all FOUR . please .

I think your right Matt its like thinking about the layshaft bearing that hasnt been changed out. Peace of mind

I had one break years ago while I was tightening the lock nut. My best guess is that I probably tightened it too much, but I can't be sure. Never had it happen again.

Yep, me too, about two years ago. Sent parts back to Andover (pre new owners) and replaced with RGM parts. I got a reply from Mr Hopkins but not even a credit note to offset the replacement cost. I didn't complain further, probably should have kicked up a fuss as I subsequently lost my auto cam chain adjuster, the theory being that the hammering and snatching the camshaft assy experienced with a 1/10" clearance for maybe 30 secs at 4000 rpm could have put extreme loads on the adjuster mech. Only a theory.
Mine were 100 miles old and here's the pics.....

Faulty manufacture, they have been through hardened , tricky items to get a good hard surface with a tough core .
Induction harding is ideal, the proccess when controled will give a hard "working" surface ,but leaving the rest in a natural state.

Problem is most suppliers [ parts dealers] dont have a clue. a good test is try a file on the square adjuster end, it should "file" as most did.

I couldnt bring myself to buy new adjuster so I got some used ones. Just think we need to be aware of it. Could have been alot worse.
