Hi everyone!

Back in 1972 I had my Norton dealer order in for me a Dr Blair 2 into 1 into 2 complete exhaust system.

It had two header pipes coming back and under the motor into one and then into two cool looking and sounding mufflers.

I am pretty sure I paid over 100 US dollars for it and it was supposed to add what, 5hp?

I was in very proud possession of my new black Combat, had a local guy port and polish the head induction tracks and lighten the rocker arms so naturally I had to have even more hp.

I remember the bike being wicked fast with my 22 year old 135 pounds on board.

The biggest problem was the center stand had to be removed to fit the Dr Blair
and thus I had no way to tighten the rear chain other than loosening the threaded adjustors and axels and kind of bumping the bike to move the rear wheel back.

Anyone else buy and fit a Dr Blair exhaust, what are your memories of it?

Wasn't Dr. Blair the co-developer of the Dunstall 2-1-2 exhaust? I think that I remember reading how Dr. Blair designed the headers and Paul Dunstall developed the silencers. I did have one of those systems and liked it quite a lot. Not the best of chrome on it so I painted mine Hi-heat black. I crushed it when I hit a deer so back on went the original. I'd forgot how much I missed the center stand.

Sounds like the Dunstall system that I had for a while. I recall it having 1-5/8" pipes and it breathed really well. The Dunstall silencers didn't mount with stock hardware, and I remember having to fabricate some custom plates. Ground clearance was an issue, it'd drag when going over speed bumps. And yeah, I missed the center stand.

Had one back in the day Blair's design was brilliant ... Dunstalls implementation much less so.. thought it rubbush quality . It would never seal properly and the mounting plates an abomination. Slung it in the dustbin. But to be fair it did add around 5bhp mid range.. made the bike feel quite torquey but nothink on top end..

Right! That's the Dunstall-marketed system. I would put one on my Commando in a heartbeat BUT...the reduced ground clearance would probably destroy the pipe within a mile due to the Topes (speed bumps) in Mexico.

I used this exhaust in the mid 80s for a hike on my ‘73 750. Like most of Dunstall equipment the welds broke. It did push the hp range up the rpm range
