Hi Folk
Just joined the forum - I'm new to Commandos and have bought a '71 wreck to restore. I'm also writing a book on the Commando, and will feature the restoration in it. No major problems so far and I'm impressed with the spares availability in the UK so far - I've not found anything that is unavailable.
The bike itself has roadster tank and sidepanels, and came with Hi-rider bars. It came back from the US, and has obviously been standing outside with the head off for quite a while. Currently its been all stripped down (apart from the gearbox) and the rolling chassis is just about re-built. I just happened to buy a Hi-Rider tank and seat before I found the bike so am tempted to build it up as a Hi-Rider - after all it already has the bars! I'll post some pictures in the near future if anyone is interested. I'm based in north Hampshire in the UK.

Hello Matt, you'll probably find a few 'Real Classicers" on here as well.

Go ahead and post some pictures. We like pictures ! :)

You're going to need eBay if you build a Hi-Rider. It's the only place that you'll find the flared trousers. :?

Hi Matt
Always nice to see photos of a restoration ongoing. Start the thread with some before shots.

Don't think I have seen one of those :D

Bigstu - I wouldn't want your Norton experience to be incomplete!

The 2-into-1 exhaust was styling touch added by the last owner, as was the oil cooler. The oil tank cover was out to the painter at the time of the photo.

This machine was purchased with the intent of converting it to a more comfortable, longer range road bike. This is it's current appearance:

The small (5 inch) Hi-rider headlight and handlebars have not been replaced yet. There are other improvements scheduled which I hope to finish off in the next year.
