A word of thanks to all you guys out there.

Fitted the final bolt this afternoon.
What started as a case of, 'Let's see if we can get this Commando back on the road - without too much effort' , turned in to a an 18 month project with lots of surprises on the way.

Another Commando returns from the dust

Thanks to all the information available on this great forum, you guys (and in particular DogT) I managed to get this basket case, which I tucked away in the garage 31 years ago, into a rather neat looking Commando.

The purist will probably object to the lack of adherence to the original design, but what the heck, I like the looks and she can easily be converted back to the original 'Commando S' she once was.

Since it is still freezing cold in our neck of the woods (Gothenburg, Sweden) she will have to wait a few more weeks before it is time to fire her up.

You Swedes sure are the masters of the understatement.

By the way, when are you going to put the air horns back on?

Out-freakin-standing!!! I love it! All that matter is that you do as well!

Please tell me you kept the horns!

The bike looks terrific. A good candidate for the most improved I think.

Just beautiful! And I don't think you'll find too many purists on this site. Hope the weather cooperates soon!

Fantastic, my preference for the upswept pipes, one on either side, very nice

phenomenal.

When you do one yourself, you really understand the work and money it takes to do it right. Yours is beyond repraoch.

nice job.

I was going to suggest keeping the horns too, but for some reason I found it tacky (cheeky), to ask that is.

Absoulutey gorgeous bike!! Your going to score major points with the other "red" owners on this site.

When I bought my bike in 1978 the PO had air horns hooked up to a compressor...they were freakin' loud...loved them. But they eventually crapped out by grit and crap getting into them and I threw them away. Guess I could have cleaned them out an mounted them out of the air stream...but that was 20+ years ago...might have saved them if I thougt about it more and hindsight being crystal clear and all.

Amazing. That must have been a fun project, congratulations. Every time you throw your leg over that bike you'll be wearing the biggest sense-of-satisfaction grin - more than many "purists", enjoy.
