Andover Rocker Spindle Cover Gaskets

I was getting a little weeping from some of the rocker spindle covers plus the bolts were looking tatty. I sprayed the gaskets with copper gasket stuff and put everything together. The new outer covers (I'm so cheap I reused the inner ones!) and SS bolts look better.

I smeared a little Threebond on the threads of the bolts just under the copper washers just in case any oil decided to come up the threads.

I posted this on Facebook and someone posted this:

Genuine Andover gaskets are impregnated with heat activated resin so no additional sealant is needed, in fact additional sealant could cause leakage
I hadn't heard this before. I forget who the AN person on the board is, maybe they can comment?

Anyways, we'll see how these last.

I suspect the ancient silicone rocker cover gaskets are also leaking so I may try the ones from @jseng1 next. I think I got these gaskets when I got the bike and they still are holding up although nt as well as I like. I think I got my money's worth from them!

It's been 15 years since I last fettled with mine, but I seem to recall that the gaskets are just paper. I used my go-to sealer, Permatex high tack spray (red stuff) and haven't had any leaks since.

I think that's AN's composite head gaskets.

I think they use to be just paper but these ones were definitely thicker than standard paper.

I could have gone all day without trying to decipher a hobot post.

Looking at your picture, there is a leak and it is from the oil lines. Looks exactly as mine.

You may be right. I did have to loosen the oil line to get to the back cover so that was the reason for the drip you see there. But I may need to address the oil line washer too.

Maybe it wasn't you who positioned the oil line over the cover plate in the first place...but...
...why put it back in the same place again?

Because you have to. There isn't enough length to put it above. It doesn't really matter as you shouldn't have to get to the rocker spindle covers very often.

I ain't believing it.... No car washes? That's absurd. Got to be some somewhere.
