I'm nearing the end of my 64 Atlas assembly project and was struck by one thing I can't believe they did. It's a single carb model and the carb is directly above the magneto. My A10 is the same setup but BSA was smart enough to put a drip tray on the manifold so that a leaky carb won't deposit fuel directly on the mag. Norton on the other hand, by the shape of the rear engine cover plate, has pretty much built a funnel so that any gas will drip directly on the rear plug wire where it exits the mag body. I had a friend in high school whose Atlas burned up because of this. What the hell were they thinking I wonder?

You can fit the BSA drip tray on the Atlas. It does make it difficult, though, to get to the idle jet.

I never found it a problem except when I forgot to tighten the petrol tap connection up.
My problem was the frequency that the oil got past the oil seal. . . . . .

My friend's Manxman had twin carbs. The head might fit an Atlas. But where would you buy one ?

I have a Atlas with distributor and points, the cover is right there also. It makes Life more interesting and my riding friends a little nervous!
