ammeter light

I need some help-info about my electrical system(who doesn't?). Upon reinstalling the clutch & alternator the ammeter light did not go on when the ignition was turned on. The light flickers momentarily when the headlight is switched to bright w/o the engine running. I had some issues w the stator but that seems to be resolved. I get 13.25V at the battery at 4K. I've heard it's supposed to be 13.5. Is that enough for the system to charge? The issue w the ammeter confuses me. Might there be a problem with the regulator? If so how do I check it? I'm in a situation where I'm reluctant to take the bike out for an extended ride.

Do you mean the assimilator (Red, charge warning) light?

OK, as you have been working on the stator wiring recently, there is the possibility that the green/yellow stator to assimilator ("AL" terminal) wire connection has become loose, or there could be a wiring fault between the stator connection and the assimilator or there could be a fault on the assimilator ground wire or connection? If not, then check the bulb and connector and check battery voltage is reaching the bulb when the ignition is switched on.

Or, it could be a faulty assimilator or alternator not working correctly?

LAB. I think you are right. I believe the ground for the stator is damaged inside the unit. Is there a way to bench test the stator?

The standard Lucas alternator stator internal windings doesn't have a ground. If there is any continuity between the stator wires and ground then the stator would be faulty.

Probably not without special equipment, except perhaps for doing basic meter checks.

A flickering or non-functioning assimilator warning light would seem more likely to be an assimilator/bulb circuit problem.
